YHC, after a 4-week surgery delay due to COVID, is getting a new left hip on Monday. Mueller graciously allowed me to take the reins for one last hurrah before YHC is laid up for a few weeks.
Grateful to have a large and spirited group. Particularly glad to have Madonna join us from San Antonio. (Moving his son into Duke this weekend. He had good things to say about the Churham website, made it easy to find us. Bravo to Yanni and all our IT gurus.)
Mueller led some easygoing dynamic stretching before we got down to business.
Before warmup went ahead and cranked up the playlist compiled last night: Songs with hip in them, one song by The Tragically Hip, then found Rolling Stone’s top hip hop songs of all time and played seven of those:
- Hip to be Square – Huey Lewis and The News
- Hippy Hippy Shake – Georgia Sattelites
- Island in the Sun (hip, hip…) – Weezer
- Hip Hop Hooray – Naughty by Nature
- Hips Don’t Lie – Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean
- Ouch – The Tragically Hip
- The Message – Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
- Fight the Power – Public Enemy
- Rapper’s Delight – Sugarhill Gang
- Mind Playing Tricks – Geto Boys (surprised this was this high on Rolling Stone’s list but not mad at it!)
- Planet Rock – Afrika Bambaataa &. The Soul Sonic Force
- Sucker M.C.’s – Run D.M.C.
- Nuthin’ but a G Thang – Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg
Warm-up consisted of SSH, IW, LBAC, half mosey lap, then a flapjack – bear crawl down, crab walk back. Currently working on a theory that just about everyone besides me and Bronze Squrl hates crab walk. Today lent credence to this hypothesis.
