Gross Doras

February 2, 2019

WHEN: 01/31/2019
QIC: Knope
PAX: Cool J, Coxswain, SalPal, Smeagol, Sweatervest, Knope

The Polar Vortex that past week wreaked havoc in many areas of the US. Some would say that it did here to, but I’d suggest that the cold weather just made us tougher. When I pulled into the lot for the Bullpen, the locks were switched, cutting off access to the bricks I had hoped to incorporate into the workout. Since it was in the low 20s, there wasn’t much time to call an audible, so on with the show…

6 PAX rolled into the lot, looking to get warm quick. YHC was ready.

The Thang

Then we moseyed. Headed towards the Durham Athletic Park (the old ball park), we found that it had become a staging area for road/curb/utility work near Corporation and Rigsbee. Taking an audible, we moved to the parking lot at Measurement Inc.

I prepped the PAX letting them know we had a gross of merkins to complete with lunge walks and duck walks across the lot between sets. We had 12 types of merkins, and did 12 reps of each, totaling a gross (144) of merkins. The order was:

Rangers

Crucibles (Standard merkin, hands turned, fingers pointing towards feet)

Mountain Climbers (One CC MC on the up)

Derkin

Diamond

RH Offset

LH Offset

Carolina Dry Dock

Wide Grip

Erkin

Hand Release

Standard

After the gross, we moseyed to the Leaf at the bottom of the hill in Durham Central Park. The PAX partnered for a Dora.

Chilcutt Planks x 75

LBCs x 150

Air Dramas x 300

This took up all of our time, so we headed to startex. I had a plan for a new exercise, but since we weren’t able to get into the bullpen, we had to improvise.

COT

The Bull – Mark you calendars now for 10/26.

Prayers for Sal Pal as he works towards relocation, to be with his now fiance.

A prayer of thanks was offered for the temperatures that we had during the Polar Vortex, comparatively we fared much better than our family and friends up north.

Cool J took us out.

After COT, we had a small team building exercise. We were challenged using just items from our cars, and with partially numb fingers to rescue Smeagol’s keys from the gas cap cover in his car. Various Subaru branded tools, a credit card, and the gloomy logic of 6 grown ass men, rose to the challenge with minimal damage to his paint job.
