F3 Durham Dirty Dozen Day 2: Leg day at The Big Dance

November 8, 2016

WHEN: 11/08/2016
QIC: F3Churham
PAX: Beano, Floyd, Sweater Vest, Porterhouse, Driftwood, 2-Ply, Doogie, Riggs, T”eo, Coco, Chachi, Nickleback, Peach, Loveshack, Tuco, Assisi, Juco, Boucher, Falwell, Maxwell, Tater-Tot, Sub-Prime, Sawyer, Pell Grant, Sweats

We were quite the sight to behold at Forest Hills Park on this election morning. While we very well could have plyometricked folks into thinking we were protesters, we actually confused our fellow Durham denizens into thinking we were voter suppressors. We showed up and showed out today at the polling center. Much to the chagrin of the dutiful polling center volunteers, however, it was to rock our legs, not the vote, though some PAX may have taken the opportunity to do the latter. We were not even there this morning to Stump and Pump for Trump. We were merely there to PUMP YOU(R LEGS) UP. Yes, there was a confrontation, but you”ll have to wade through this heady leg day BB to see how it ends. Spoiler alert: it ends in muffins.
Rewind to 5AM. I saw 36 degrees on the dashboard before hopping out into the gloom. Tag-team, back again, Doogie/Sweats are your Qs for the 1-2 EC/Main Event punch today. I knew we were in for something special when Doogs hopped out of his car and started painting ladders on the concrete. Actually, I knew we were in for something special when I first typed Doogie into WhatsApp and it autocorrected me to “Boogie” but that”s a different story for a different day.
Extra credit (15 PAX):

  • SSH x 50 (then 15 more for Coco who came in HOT at about 5:01).
  • Plyometrics, or for the uninitiated, jump training (about 25 yards and back, and yet even more specifically, from the truck to the Audi)
  • high-knees
  • butt-kickers
  • karaoke
  • low slide shuffle
  • high-skipping
  • bounding for distance
Ladder drills: picture a spray-painted ladder on the ground and PAX line up single file. You have to hop in and out of the boxes as you “climb” the ladder, three rounds through each time, as such:
  • Round 1: single leg hop right; Round 2: single leg hop left; Round 3: bunny hop
  • SLR, SLL, in in out out
  • SLR, SLL, the big dance
  • side slide merkins x2
  • SLR, SLL, hop in squat out
  • high knee SLR, high knee SLL, in in out out
  • hkSLR, hkSLL, the big dance

To the tennis courts for The Main Event (25 PAX):
WU: Slow Imperial Walkers, Willie Mays Hayes, Sumo Squats, Squats with feet together.
First Exercise: Start off at the tennis courts for Doracides: lunge walk to the end of the first tennis court and back. Then Bunny Hop to the end of the second tennis court and back. While your partner digs into that, you”re stuck getting started on this:

  • 200 tuck jumps
  • 300 jump squats
  • 400 squats

Thanks to the Rocky Soundtrack (namely “Eye of the Tiger,” “War,” and “Hearts on Fire”), you have some extra motivation to power through.
Next Exercise: 4-minute Tabatas (thank you Spotify for the Rocky Tabata mix):

  • 20 seconds Bulgarian Split Squat (switch leg each time); 10 seconds Jump Lunge

Next Exercise: Mosey to the Briar Cliff (on Briarcliff Rd.) for some Quadraphilia:

  • Backwards run up hill:
  • Run down hill to the manhole

Repeato 5 times.
Final Exercise: Lt. Dans

  • One squat: 2 lunge ratio, to 6:12

While PAX congregated around YHC”s car post-main event to grab a muffin (thanks to Mrs. Sweats for three varieties – blueberry, chocolate, and birthday cake), a polling center volunteer scolded us for taking up parking spaces on election day. Newsflash: Forest Hills Park is a polling center, so please go vote there today if that is your precinct. Our apologies go out to the great people who help run the polling stations for any inconvenience we may have caused. We thank you for your service. Had we known it was in fact a polling station, we would have made other plans. Truth be told, though, there were plenty of parking spaces both in front of the park and on the side on Forest Hills Blvd. The line was not long at 6:20, the exact time we left and were confronted, about 10 minutes before the booths opened.
Indeed, tensions are high on this election morning. That is why we prayed for our country. While we are caught up in the Dirty Dozen, our nation is faced with a great decision. YHC took the opportunity to state that we are all in this together. Together, we want to be prosperous. Let”s all remember that the sun will rise tomorrow and that our families, communities, and employers/employees need us. Vote today. The rest won”t be easy, but it will be worth it. With our F3 brethren, we share the load. Grow, evolve. Forward progress is the point.
Moleskine:

  • With the exception of a few EC merkins, not many were performed today after our 300+ ouput at Devil”s Ridge yesterday. It is difficult to walk as of this writing (9:00am on 11/8/16).
  • House of Pain tomorrow. Chachi has EC and Tuco has the Main Event. Be there to get to a dirty half-dozen.
  • Great to see all the PAX banding together this week. Churham is representing and it”s awesome to witness.
