EMOM In The Rain

September 17, 2018

WHEN: 09/17/2018
QIC: Griswold
PAX: Spooky, Lopair, Homes, Weurful, Eddie the Eagle, EZ Pass, Malware, Cauliflower, Fingers, Turnpike, Mr Bean. Harley Quinn, Flenderson, Bogey, Paperboy, Rambler, Moore, Green Acres, Griswold

6 PAX got together for a wet and rainy EC ruck that involved fording some waterways and navigating a downed tree (full disclosure the water was ankle deep and standing and the tree was not very big) but it still felt like the Oregon Trail! 19 PAX were on hand for the ME.

Warmup:

Arm Circles F/R x 10

Slow Squats x 15

SSH IC x 70

The Thang:

The original plan was to mosey to the traffic circle to start our trip, but Moore suggested a wise audible due to lightening that involved being under the covered parking deck, so that is where we kicked off. The plan was to do 5 burpees Every Minute On the Minute (EMOM) while traveling and avoiding running. The mode of travel was to be the Lt. Danger. Lt. Danger is a Lt. Dan with a Merkin. So, Lunge Walk each leg is 1, Squat and Merkin. Then the 2 and so on in ascending order.

This was miserable. At about 7 YHC called for a recovery lap that took the PAX down the road and back (still stopping for our EMOM burpees). When we reached the parking deck again the Lt. Danger was back on. We picked up where we left off and went to the 10. After the misery that was a Lt. Danger to 10 combined with EMOM burpees the mode of travel was switched to a fellowship pace run/tour around the AO until it was time to circle up for Mary.

Apologies, but a final count on burpees was not taken. Total workout time was 41 minutes from start of warm up to end of Mary. Best guess is a min of 31 of those minutes were devoted to EMOM gives us 155 burpees. Lets put a range of 135-155 on it (I will be telling the story with 155).

Announcements:

-Green Acres is going to be picking up donated supplies tomorrow in Briar Chapel. If you are in BC and have anything please let myself or Skynard know and we will make sure it gets to Green Acres for drop off at the Ramses convergence Weds.

-Convergence at Ramses for the 5 year anniversary of Chapel Hill F3. Start time is moved up to 5:30 to accommodate the anticipated large numbers. I believe both the Earl and Big House will be open in the event schedules don’t allow for travel to the convergence.

-Thursday at Kunkleton will be a meet-up to hear war stories from the Heavy in NYC and discuss the logistics of a custom HTL in the greater Churham area.

– September 29th is the Super Cooper 5K. Sounds like a ruck group is in the works for those that would rather not run.

We were mostly very fortunate in our area with the turn that the storm took, many of us have unused supplies, and F3 is doing a great job getting them to where they can help. I had a good deal of people from out of the area reach out both before and during the storm and many of them mentioned how lucky we were to miss the devastation that was predicted. I have tried to remind each of them that while my area was lucky, the storm itself did still bring the devastation expected, just to different areas. I am relieved not to have gotten hit hard, but I am not happy, because my fortune was someone else’s misfortune. So many people got hit so hard by the storm, and lost so much. I think it is OK to feel relieved, but at the same time we should all be mindful of those that were caught in the path of Florence. Let’s all continue to help in any way we can, and be sure to remind our friends and family that tell us how lucky we are that a lot of people were very unlucky for the same reasons we were lucky.
