Cut to the Chase

April 4, 2019

WHEN: 04/04/2019
QIC: Awesome Baby and Cosmo
PAX: Juco, Draper, Shake It, Amphibious, Appomattox, Vespa

This is how YHC feels during his occasional posts at The Moose…

Which is to say: Eric Gordon playing violin is to Billy Madison playing clarinet, as the dadgum gazelles of The Moose running the ATT is to YHC huffing and puffing from the six. Eric is a bad, bad man!!!

ANYWHO, noticed an empty Q sheet yesterday for Bean Traders AO, but YHC was clamoring for much-needed Tar Heel 10-miler tune-up. Put a call out to that effect, and Awesome Baby indicated he was in the same boat. He then suggested we could “co-Q and co-6.” YHC laughed and laughed.

But then we had an idea. An awful idea. Awesome Baby and Cosmo had a wonderful, awful idea.

Instead of us chasing the gazelles, how about we make them chase us?

After a brief warm-up, we told the gazelles the Qs were running to Renaissance Parkway, about a mile off. They had to give us a minute head start. If they didn’t overtake us, they owed 10 burpees. Joined by Appo, who was coming off the shelf after two weeks battling a cold, we took off. Alas, all the gazelles caught us. Shake It posted a 5:48 (!!!) mile, with Juco and Phibs not far behind. No burpees. Ok then.

Mile 2: 90-second head start, anyone who didn’t catch us owed 15 burpees. This time we got a few.

Mile 3: 75-second head start, 10 burpee penalty. A few more PAX owed burpees.

Mile 4: 60-second head start, 20 merkin penalty. All gazelles got us, but barely.

We recruited Vespa to our team for last sprint. Half mile, gazelles had to give us 45-second head start. Vespa, who had made some noises to indicate he was in discomfort, took off like a shot and just legged out Shake It, Juco and Phibs. We all did five burpees together, then fellowship paced it home for approx six total miles.

COT

Appomattox is up for a post-doc position. Keep him in your prayers.
Shake It mentioned a Cinco de Mayo 22-mile run, with options to join up for as little or as much as one likes. Thinking of a 2nd F event to follow. More details to come on Slack.

Awesome Baby took us out.

BOM

YHC and Awesome Baby were giddy about the serendipitous opportunity to lead this group. Always fun to find ways to lead from the 6 while making sure that everyone gets their money’s worth. Great way for us all to push and encourage one another at the same time. Honor and privilege as always. SYITG! Aye!
