Campus Tour by a Heel

February 19, 2018

7 PAX showed up for a wet campus tour on this Presidents Day 2018 and 3 PAX for EC Pull-ups at the Bueler Trail.  YHC tried to be a good Heel by honoring our fiercest competitor and focusing on some objective truths at Duke.  For instance, Duke University has had 17 presidents to date and the school is worth more than 7 billion with its endowment, putting it at 17th among other institutions.  It was also founded on some pretty stellar principles (see link below).

COT

The Bull coming up in April and should be lots of fun!  Camp Sea Gull father/child weekend extravaganza in August.  Prayers for Jerome Gonzales’ family in NJ, mourning his loss.  Prayers for us to connect with our fathers in new ways as we seek to be better fathers to our children, not repeating generational patterns that can be hard to break…for wisdom as we discover our shortcomings in relationships, how to become more wise in spite of those, and grow more mature and in touch emotionally / alive as men.

NMS

Thanks to all who showed up this morning for a puddle jumping wet ride.  After the news of the passing of Jerome Gonzales at the Bragg Heavy event this weekend, I personally needed to pause and assess my motive with exercise and pushing new limits.  I kept coming back to the great sense of vulnerability it takes to come to these workouts for people; when I first came I was struck by that about F3.  You don’t get to have control.  I think that is a great exercise for us men because we like to be in control.  Life seems to work out better as we relinquish control, but gain wisdom, advancing learning in all lines of truth (see link to plaque above).  It’s also good to be uncomfortable I believe (in moderation) because growth really doesn’t occur unless we endure hardship…or at least that’s been my experience.  So the idea that a workout may be hard can be a good thing as it sharpens us and brings us out closer to a better version of ourselves.  I’m also asking the question of whats a good balance when it comes to fostering enrichment in heart, soul, body, and mind.  For those of us in F3, we do a good job of encouraging one another towards hard work and strength/endurance.  There are so many opportunities within F3 to branch out and add to an ME here and there.  It’s different for all of us, and that’s good.  No one thing is better than the other.  It’s all done because we want to be good stewards of what we’ve been given, we’re grateful for able bodies, we want to be in fellowship with other men, we believe it’s important to serve others, all because these things can make us operate as better versions of the men we strive to be.  We’re always growing and becoming, but we need not forget about the heart, soul, and mind.  They help keep our primal instincts of always wanting more and a proclivity of making idols of things (how we look, feel, achieve) in check.  Thanks for the privilege fellas, Over and out!
