A Walk in the Woods

November 4, 2017

WHEN: 11/04/2017
QIC: RG3
PAX: Bean Bag, Gomer, Grunge, Rambler

YHC loves that there’s an AO dedicated to rucking and was eager to Q Rambler’s newly formed Basecamp.  Now was YHC’s opportunity to (finally) take the ruck off-road and on to the wonderful trails surrounding Briar Chapel.  Five Pax showed up ready to roll including first-time rucker Gomer, and second timer, Bean Bag.

Warm-up

Ready….Set….Walk.

The Thang

ruck-map

The group headed north on Great Ridge Gravel buttressed by YHC’s comically “wired” headlight strapped to a car battery (good one, Grunge). But YHC had the last laugh as the 1200 lumens brought an early sunrise to the path ahead.

The group rucked at a decent pace up to Mann’s Chapel then circled back to hit the trail head. We then meandered around the edge of BC for a few miles until we hit our first bridge.

Pokeberry Bridge Sprint

Upon arrival at Pokeberry (Trail) Bridge, YHC ordered a full sprint to the bridge end. Gomer shouldn’t have been wearing his ruck sack backwards at this point :-). Grunge blasted the group like it ain’t no thang.

YHC’s plan was to continue climbing Bennett Mountain trail but time limits forced a course correction.  The group instead took the (rocky) bike path toward the dog park until we hit Beaver Dam bridge.

Beaver Dam Bridge Sprint

Another full bridge sprint was ordered and poor Gomer still had his backpack forward. We regrouped at the end and rucked out of the woods by the (original) BC Dog Park.

The group then headed up the paved portion of Great Ridge to the AO for loving and hugging.

COT

YHC expressed his growing love for the ruck, which began after a wrist injury forced a 10-week hiatus from standard bootcamp workouts.  YHC was glad to see newbies Beanbag and Gomer out there and of course regulars Grunge and Rambler . The group was encouraged to come back out and recruit more and help Basecamp grow!

Aye.
