No Easy Way Out, Hearts on Fire!

January 2, 2019

WHEN: 01/02/2019
QIC: Sweats
PAX: Sweats, Subprime, Sidecar, Bushwood, Avalanche, Beano, Stop, Drop & Roll, Gordo, Walt, Ocho, Spooky, Champ, Prancing Horse, TB, Deep Dish, Foghorn Leghorn, Boucher, MLP

8 PAX showed up for Heavy Drop Training, which is sandbag and ruck PT. I’ve been doing this stuff for a few weeks and I love it. The sandbags are a great fluid weight and when lifted and hoisted and thrown, help you realize you have many more muscles to work (that will get very sore). We did a core workout focusing on sandbag get ups, lots of hip thrusts and sit ups with sandbags, and some sandbag tosses and other sandbag work.

18 PAX decided to kick January 2nd in the balls and warmed up to your usual potpourri of exercises that wake your ass up, then got bluetoothed with some Rocky IV Soundtrack while doing a Jack Webb on steroids. Let’s call it a Sweaty Webb.

The War Montage got us through this first one. If you can’t get fired up to these songs, well, you just can’t get fired up then:

More F3 workout to come that incorporate this awesome training sequence

Rocky IV quotes, help us kick off the year!

“If I can change, and you can change, everybody can change!” – Rocky

It’s true, a lot of us will try to change from now until Dec. 31, 2019. Just remember, the only lasting change is incremental. Here are some incremental ratios to get you started:

Ratios: 1 merkin; 2 jump lunges (1 each leg); 3 squats; 4 tuck jumps. Up to 6; 12; 18; 24.

“You and me, we don’t even have a choice. See, we’re born with this killer instinct that you can’t just turn off and on like some radio. We always have to be in the middle of the action ’cause we’re the warriors. And without some challenge, without some damn war to fight, then the warrior might as well be dead, Stallion!” – Apollo

We each have a war to fight this year. What is it going to be for you? Better figure that out soon lest you drift along and just let life happen to you. Figure out your war, and win the damn thing! While you’re thinking about that, here’s some more pain:

Then to the tennis courts, where we BTTW max and then completed a four-count bear crawl, with the fourth count being an escalating merkin, all the way to 10. Back to BTTW max. Plank, low squat hold, or pick up 6.

“I must break you.” – Drago

This one is pretty self-explanatory. So here we go!

An escalating burpee/jump squat, all the way to 10:10, across the tennis courts.

“Going in one more round when you don’t think you can. That’s what makes the difference in your life.” – Rocky

On a serious note, this quote means a lot to me. I believe that most of us are not separated by much (with many exceptions, of course), and that a very thin margin separates the good from the great, the standing from the sitting, and yes, the winners from the losers. It’s that mentality that you won’t quit, won’t give in, and that you’ll keep showing up Every. Damn. Day. Let life give you hell. Keep coming back for more.

“If he dies, he dies” – Drago

Again, straightforward. One-legged burpees never killed anyone, though (to my knowledge).

A traveling one-legged burpee was all that stood in the way of PAX and Mary. It just happened to be on the final leg of THWM before the parking lot.

Mary: russian hammer, flutter kick, WWII, 6-inch hold, and box cutters (5 exercise Mary max – self-imposed rule)

CoT: Go to the Wolf this Saturday 7-9 at Duck and Weave in Hillsborough. Q School Friday at TBL with Beano. Welcome Sub-Prime as 1st F Q (taking over for Beano).
