Injuries force us to adjust all the time. To start the week, FiddleStick asked if anyone would grab the Q on Thursday for him. I sent him a message saying I could grab it, if no one else did, and we chatted about his challenges in his recovery and the mental difficulties it can present. Then, when I announced I would take the Q Wednesday morning, Hammer Time requested a limited movement workout, and offered some sandbags as an alternative. I was happy to accommodate both requests because it was the right thing to do – leave no man behind and modify as necessary all rolled into one. Beyond the good of the community, the restrictions applied by a sandbag workout gave me an opportunity to look into and come up with exercises I haven't or don't normally do, which was personally satisfying as I love variety, love challenges, and love learning.
After a pretty standard warmarama, we started in on the sandbags. We had time for two circuits where we each did the following (we had 80#, 60#, two 40#, 20# sandbags, 2 35# kettlebells, 1 20# kettlebell, a cinderblock, and a 30# ruck, and everyone did the exercise of their choice with the weight they could if alternates were available).
Circuit 1 (timer was the person doing the "sandbag sprint" around the pavilion forwards and then backwards.
Exercises
1) Sandbag sprint – take the 80lbs sandbag and run/walk around the pavilion forward and then backwards.
2) Step Back Lunge with wood chop
3) Zercher Squats (Holding sandbag in the crook of your elbows, perform a front squat).
4) Glute bridge with wood chop
5) Kneeling Chop
6) Bentover Rows
7) Bearcrawl with pull through/murder bunny (and reverse versions of both).
Circuit 2 (timer was the person doing 15 burpees with OH press w/sandbag)
1) Forward Lunge + woodchop
2) Reverse Lunge + Good morning (30lbs ruck)
3) Curtsy Lunge + hammer curl
