Has It Really Been Thirty Years?

Saturday was YHC”s 30th high school reunion in Charlotte, and as YHC and his surviving classmates cheerfully knocked back a few bottles of Maker”s Mark and reminisced about the felonies we committed way back when, a workout plan began forming in the booze-soaked recesses of YHC”s brain. Think 30 for 30. Many PAX at The Big Dance were left wishing that YHC had graduated more recently (or maybe even that he had never been born).
Four early birds for EC, in which we learned that Floyd was a Division II soccer goalkeeper. Plans are incomplete for the bronze Floyd statue on campus, but rumor has it that the initial plans for the statue showed it in a reclining position. EC workout as follows:

  • Plank 30 seconds
  • 30 Flutter kicks
  • Run around tennis courts
  • Plank 30 seconds
  • 30 LBCs
  • Run around tennis courts
  • Plank 30 seconds
  • 30 Russian hammers
  • Run around tennis courts
  • Plank 30 seconds
  • Superman 30 seconds
  • Run around tennis courts
  • Plank 30 seconds
  • 30 Freddie Mercurys
  • Run around tennis courts
  • Repeat the first two sequences

Then the Main Event, with 13 PAX on hand who all had questions for YHC about what the world was like 30 years ago (yes, we had cars; no, we did not have Slack; yes, Betty White was still old then; no, YHC was not as slow then as he is now). After Q&A we still had time for the following workout:
Warmups: Side shuffle hop (x30), imperial walker (x30), Willie Mays Hays (x10), little baby arm circles (x10), reverse little baby arm circles (x10), merkins (x30), squats (x30).
Run across University Drive to Hermitage Ct and up the hill to the Hermitage Ct circle. Then an Indian Run one lap around the Hermitage Ct circle (supposed to be three laps, but who knew it was a half-mile loop?). Run back to the park and onto the tennis courts. There:

  • Balls to the wall 30 seconds, then People”s Chair 30 seconds (x2 for each)
  • Bear crawl across four tennis courts, 30 tuck jumps
  • Crab walk across four tennis courts, 30 prisoner squats
  • Suicide on tennis courts, 30 tuck jumps
  • Suicide on tennis courts, 30 prisoner squats

Mosey over to the Big Tree. We did the Tunnel of Love from the path to the Big Tree.
Mary followed around the swingset:

  • Plank (30 seconds)
  • LBCs (30)

For those of you who have not yet reached your 30th reunions, go when you have the opportunity. All those women who wouldn”t speak to you way back when are now eager to talk to any adult in the room (a low bar which YHC just barely clears). Plus did I mention the open bar?
