Tobacco Road Saturday Special

April 30, 2019

WHEN: 04/28/2019
QIC: Floyd and Cosmo
PAX: Vespa, Scapula, Grunge, Jordache (FNG), Cardiac, Rambler, Loonie

A few months ago, the PAX of South Durham considered how we could give back to the community which has allowed us to run around in the dark, making a ruckus and generally acting 10 years younger than our stated age. We decided that we would do a series of roadside cleanups. Our first effort was on March 30 at Parkwood Elementary where we had a Piranha Saturday Special followed by a school cleanup. This next event was co-sponsored by the Hope Valley Ruck Club and the GoRuck Travis Manion Foundation. The plan was to do a one hour boot-camp workout from 6-7am and then do an hour of roadside cleanup on Scott King Rd from 7-8am.

We had 9 PAX for the ME and 10 PAX for the ruck roadside cleanup.

Time to turn the Q over to my main man, Cosmo, who is a good guy, but doesn’t know what the official Churham definition of Homer to Marge is.

Cosmo: My main intention with my bit was to spare Floyd’s shoulder. Took inspiration from a Grunge Q last fall that was just 45 minutes of Mary. Figured that’d be easy on the shoulder and a good workout for all concerned. Told Floyd this was my plan the night before. Apparently he thought YHC was kidding.

Controversy ensued during next round. YHC called out Homer to Marge. His understanding based on the Exicon is that a Homer to Marge is six-inch hold then leg lift straight up then back down. Floyd claimed it was more like some sort of butt bridge thing. Here’s how the Exicon describes a Homer to Marge:

As with much nomenclature in the Lake Norman area just north of Charlotte, we have a nuclear theme for this exercise. The Simpsons also lived within a 10 mile radius of a nuclear power plant where the potassium iodide pills only prolong the inevitible in the case of a meltdown. Homer is laying on your back and holding your feet 6 inches off the ground with your hands under your posterior. We raise our straight legs to vertical, which we call Marge (picture her hairdo) and then lower them on a 4 count to Homer. For an added twist (pun intended), from Marge, with your hands out to the side, lower your legs to the left and turn your head to the right for Mr. Burns (why? because it burns and he worked at the Springfield nuclear plant). Repeat on the other side. This can be done in cadence, slowly, quickly…mix it up!

Floyd seemed to be describing a modification involving a rock called Rocks Up
Modified Homer to Marge – while on back with feet flat on ground raise hips so that only feet and shoulders are touching the ground. In unison, raise hips and the rock to overhead position [through tricep extension from ground position to overhead]. All rocks are then lowered back towards ground. Repeat.

You be the judge.

YHC decided to have a little fun with the confusion/dispute.

Roadside cleanup:
Travis Manion was a combat veteran who perished in combat in 2007 while drawing sniper fire away from his comrades. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Bronze Star. The Travis Manion foundation is all about empowering leaders and doing good in the community. Their motto is “If not us, then who?” The GoRuck roadside cleanup was sponsored by the TMF and PAX who completed this received a sweet t-shirt and a patch. We were able to cover 1-2 miles of road and filled up 10 trash bags full of mostly campaign signs and beer cans/bottles. Thanks to all the PAX who helped keep our community clean.

COT
After clean-up gathered for pic and Name-O-Rama. Floyd had insisted on naming the FNG, my brother in law visiting from Charlotte, prior to clean up. He came up with the rather epic Jordache, based on the BIL working for a gene therapy company. Gene, jeans. Get it? Good stuff. Believe Jordache is hooked on this thing. He was pleased to discover 7 AOs within running distance of his house. Props to him for getting out early with Scapula and YHC for an EC ruck PT workout. Moving was difficult for him the next day, pleased to report.
