Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season

October 1, 2022

WHEN: 10/01/2022
QIC: Flapjack
PAX: Shoemaker, The Judge, Blue Raider, Cypress Hill, and 28 existing PAX but not Wawa, who had an excused absence
ME HEADCOUNT: 32
EC HEADCOUNT: 4
COFFETERIA HEADCOUNT: 27

In a week headlined by

  • Hurricane Ian,
  • the long-awaited release of Avatar II Champ’s Top-15 List,
  • the ceremonial yet unceremonious drubbing of the hapless Hokies by the heroic Heels,
  • and The Quarterly Report,

YHC had planned for this week’s edition of TBR to be no more than a footnote.  But with the Quarterly Report lately postponed, 32 PAX (four of them FNG’s!) showed up in the wake of the storm this morning and TBR was again a Page One item.  That’s a newspaper reference, young’n’s.

the thang 1

Form up in teams of three.  Each team grab a cinder block.  Form up on the red line.

PAX A:  run one lap

PAX B:  bear crawl to the lacrosse goal and back

PAX C:  20 coupon curls, 20 coupon derkins, 20 goblet squats, 20 coupon OH presses

PAX A is the timer.  When he gets back, rotate.  Repeat till all PAX finish four rounds.  Recover.

the thang 2

Stay in your teams and keep your blocks.

Travel once around the track.  Available modes of travel:  OH block carry, bear crawl, crab walk, lunge walk.  No two team members may use the same mode at the same time and the block cannot touch the ground.  If the block touches the ground, all team members do 3 burpees.  (Red Ryder did many burpees due to The Weasel Shaker’s Carrboro-inflected anti-establishment stance).  Recover.

the thang 3

Line up the blocks in a double echelon.  Blocks spaced 5-6 feet apart.  Count off by twos, and form up single-file facing each line of blocks.  Four rounds as follows:

1:  bunnyhop between the blocks, broad jump over the blocks

2: jump-over burpees facing the road

3: jump-over burpees back to the road

4: bear crawl or crab walk slalom-style through the blocks.  Recover.  Did Bump Draft really just say Slalom Bear?  Jeez.

Put away a block, or join SSH x 40 led by Count Chocula.

Big shout-out to Bronze Squirl and the Durham PAX for bringing The Thin Blue Line crew over to Chapel Hill this morning.  Fantastic to have y’all here.  Our thoughts are with Arthur as he bears the burden of a big new workload, coupled with the stress of friends and colleagues who were laid off this week.  Uzi will post a link to help out our brothers at F3 Sun Coast.

YHC is excited, energized, and grateful all at once, by and for this group of men and all the FNGs.  It’s a great day to have a great day.  Aye!
