2500 Reps, and eat a damn omelet!

May 31, 2018

WHEN: 05/31/2018
QIC: Griswold
PAX: Beanbag, Chef Tell, Rambler, Griswold

It’s been a couple of weeks since YHC had been able to make an appearance at Amrap because of travel, so I wanted to make a comeback with something that would suck. The idea was to set a goal and rush towards it, then surpass it. 4 PAX took on this mission and it was accomplished.

Warmup:

Arm Circles: IC forward x 19

Windmill: IC x 14

Slow Squat x 11

The Thang

PAX circled around 4 pieces of gear with the goal of reaching a cumulative total of 500 reps on each piece of gear. Adjustments were made based on the beastly nature of the PAX.

The gear was:

1)Cinder Block – Overhead Press

2)Ruck (weight indeterminate, assumption is 40lbs) – Lungs (forward or revers)

3)60# Sandbag – Bent over rows (a monster of a kettle bell at 60# was used as a substitute at times as well)

4)40# sandbag – Squats

It became clear early on that the 500 was very attainable, and since YHC did not have much more of a plan, the numbers were upped. The OH press was moved to 700, the rest to 600. This proved more difficult.

Once the stations were “closed out” (all reps completed) the PAX preformed bodyweight exercises of choice when they were at that spot. They included, but were not limited to, many plank variations, merkins, LBCs, flutter kicks, little baby leg circles, and some more.

When all was said and done the PAX were smoked, but the workout was decimated. AMRAP 1 Gear 0.

BoM:

YHC hadn’t prepared words as free time has been in short supply in the Huis van Griswold, but something did come to mind during the morning. Just the other day YHC had a conversation with the Ms good friend that drifted into political and social issues. YHC and this individual are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum here. The conversation was respectful and amicable. Then YHC got to hoping that no offense was given, which got me to thinking. What in the hell was to worry about. Nothing was said that should cause offense. Only the difference of opinion expressed in a courteous manner. YHC immediately stopped caring if any offense was taken and a bigger, societal, issue came to mind. We as a society are no longer capable, b and large, of having a conversation where we divert from one another in opinion without either someone taking offense, or it becoming like a segment on a political talking head show. We have moved so far away from civilized discourse that most of us now avoid these topics for fear of alienating someone else, or ourselves. It is sad that we no longer exercise the most fundamental of rights because someone’s feelings may get hurt, or we are not civilized enough to do so and still be friendly. We have created echo chambers for ourselves that do not allow in or out any opinions.

YHC is done with that! We should be taking the opportunity to have these conversations, with the end of accomplishing real change. The first step is to approach these interactions respectfully and with an open mind. Allow yourself to have your mind changed. If not on the overall issue, on ideas and solutions within that issue. If we spend all of our time walking around on eggshells, no one ever gets to eat an omelet, and omelets are awesome. Have the hard conversations, do it respectfully, open your mind, and eat a damn omelet!
