As YHC continues his dive through the history of the various AOs, we find ourselves at #therock. The honorable Buffay launched this site during the Great Northern Province Expansion of 2017. One key difference, among a few, is that he led this workout during mid-October, while we battled the False Fall of August, with a heavy helping of morning dew. We'll get to the other key differences later….
WARMUP: YHC has noticed that in the early days, a mosey to a second "start" location was fairly common. And at the second location, the warm up exercises would commence. This morning, and the launch of #therock, was no different. As YHC arrived just a tick before 5:30 (thanks to a week away, with the his days starting at 7-8, not 4-5…), we began the Northern Province Founding Father's week, and immediately moseyed down to the traffic circle for warmarama. As we moseyed, there was some chatter about how nice it felt this morning at a mere 60* after last weeks rather uncomfortable heat wave. What YHC did not prepare for was…a dew point that created a lot of wet grass for the rest of the workout.
At the traffic circle, we got our first taste, performing a foot soaking round of the following:
SSH (20 CC), Good Mornings (10 6 count), Arm Circles (CC, 10 forward, 15 reverse). WMH, 10 tempo.
THE THANG:
It was truly an honor to have Buffay with us this morning, as this was the site launched, but also because "The Green Mile" was something that didn't catch on (and after today, probably won't, haha). We made our way, on the other side of the street, half way back up towards start, and found ourselves at the foot of "The Green Mile" – a short, but steep, hill to do our jacobs ladder of 10 burpees at the top, 1 air squat the bottom, completing the 11s workout. The dew was ever present her as well. Those pax who finished were to plank it out until the end. Here, we learned that some of the bushes didn't exist previously, and the small trees were mere saplings back on that fateful launch day.
We then moseyed to Cates Creek Park for some Inch Worm Merkins. During warmarama, Buffay informed us that he had actually recently re-read the backblast from this launch workout, as he has an engraved (something?) from that time in his office, which prompted his revisit. This, thankfully, allowed YHC to benefit from his memory jog for various questions throughout. We performed about 30 yards worth of inch worm merkins, paced by Nubbin, with the PAX completing when he did.
Next up was an Animal Crackers box on the soccer field, with an approximate recreation of the size of the rectangle provided by Buffay, as we bear crawled lengths, gorilla crawled the widths, and did spiderman merkins (20, 14, 10) at the first 3 corners, reconvening at the start/finish corner.
It was now that YHC saw that we were NOT going to complete the original workout, as detailed in the original backblast ( https://f3churham.com/we-have-liftoff/ ), however, we'd do our best to wrap up as much as we could.
Off to the playground where our group of 9 broke out into triplets, and did 50 pull ups/triplet. YHC had mis-remembered this section, as the 2 PAX not doing pull ups were instructed to plank rather than Ball To The Wall.
We skipped the European Vacation, and the Human Canopy, and made our way back to start for Mary.
