YHC is having a moment of "old man" reflection as he scrolls the backblasts. A good number of those old backblasts had a fair amount of editorializing. QICs providing background on the workout, anxiety ahead of a VQ, details of the mumblechatter, etc…
We sometimes accept new technology and conveniences without understanding the impact of the change. And in the case of PaxMate, while convenient, and great in it's own right, it can result in a more formulaic backblast. I guess it's like any tool, really – it's how the users wields it. Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox and on to the workout, which was ridiculous, and we only got through 3/4s of it.
WARMUP:
Side Shuffle Hop (20 IC), Willie Mays Hayes (10 tempo), Imperial Walker (10 IC), Hillbillies (10 IC), Michael Phelps (10 IC), LBACs (10 IC, forward & reverse).
For this workout, Sweats came up with something brutal (source: https://f3churham.com/double-quarter-pounder-with-cheese-and-a-mixed-bag-of-fries/ editor's note: this is one of those backblasts where the QIC waxes poetically about the workout in a way that brought chuckles and prompted mumblechatter throughout our re-run of it…it's the little things in life)
THE THANG:
Double Quarter Pounder w/Cheese (shuttle runs with escalating repetitions of different exercises performed at the end of each tennis court).
First tennis court: 25 Carolina Dry Docks
Second tennis court: 50 Merkins
Third tennis court: 75 Squats
Fourth tennis court: 100 SSH
Repeato! Single quarter-pounders just don't satisfy the hunger.
2 recovery laps around the tennis courts.
Over to the Dance Circle to dig into the fries:
45 Dips (3 sets of 15, originally 50)
30 Box Jumps (2 sets of 15). Here Pawn educated us about the danger of jumping back down, as the pressure of landing moving backwards leaves the Achilles in a compromised position. Hence forth, I'll be stepping down from my box jumps).
30 Erkins (2 sets of 15)
20 Derkins (2 sets of 10)
10 Single Leg Squats (each leg) (was supposed to be 40 each leg!)
We ran out of time and returned to start for Mary. The remainder of the workout was:
BTTW for 1 Minute
People's Chair performed simultaneously with alternating legs raised and push presses X 20.
Over to the Oak Tree for yet even more fries:
2 round trips to the Oak Tree and back, followed by 50 Swerkins
MARY:
In a bit of cosmic coincidence, each PAX lead 10 reps of the original 5 mary exercises (Flutters, Hammers, LBCs, Plank positions (regular, right arm up, left arm up), Supermans (tempo).
ANNOUNCEMENTS / COT:
With the recent passing of the Pope, a lot of the mumblechatter, that wasn't on how intense the old Sweats beatdowns were…, was around the Catholic Church, it's history, it's unique structure (few religions have a singular leader as global and well known as the Catholic Pope). We also discussed his views on peace and living a life of simplicity. While there were no specific prayer requests, just a general prayer for peace, echoing the Pope's final homily.
YHC took us out with a reminder that we are stronger together, and to seek each other out when we are struggling and need help. Aye!
