Another trip to the times of yore. Early West End backblasts contained a number of excellent workouts. For today, @nightshift was selected since YHC has always wanted to find a good spot to do a BurpBack Mountain, but would default to thinking of very big hills, not the gentle yet consistent incline of the top level of the parking deck. Below is a retelling of our (modified) recreation of that workout.

Merkin EC was called out by Atta-Boy. YHC HC'd and set his alarm appropriately. I woke, and thought "man, I wish I had snoozed" and the next thing I knew, I woke up again at 4:55. When I finally arrived to the parking deck at 5:17, Atta-Boy and Elwood were about 200 merkins deep. I knocked out the final 40 or so with them, before heading over to StartEx.
WARMUP:
While YHC was planning on mainly sticking to Nightshift's workout, I knew that with my pending 43rd birthday tomorrow, I wanted to throw in some bonus birthday burpees.
5 burpees
Side Shuffle Hop (IC 20)
5 burpees
Good mornings (6 CT 10)
5 burpees
Arm Circles (10 IC)
5 burpees
Mountain Climbers (15 IC)
5 burpees (after this round, Gridlock accurately called out "well I think that's 25 burpees")
Slow Merkins

We saved the final 18 for later.

THE THANG:
Mosey to the trail by way of Oak Leaf and take a left on the trail. Go all the way to Brewer Lane and turn left again. Turn left on E. Main, and finally turn Left on Boyd St to the back entrance to the garage.

Partner one does overhead clap while in low squat hold with the other does 50 plank jacks. Flip Flop.

Climb stairs to the top for Burpback Mountain: one backpedals up the hill and runs down while the other does burpees; 100 combined. LBC til all in.

One partner does low squat hold while the other lunges 3 spots up the slope. Lunger start low squat hold while other lunges to catch up.

Partner one planks while the other bear crawls 3 spots down the slope than planks. Partner one bear crawls to catch up. Repeat to the bottom.

Merkin wave of fire. Pax hold plank then sequentially bang out 1 merkins, then, 2, 3, 4, 5. (Editor's Note: It took us until round 5 to get the timing down, but we finally did it).

Run to the bottom of the garage. (With the timing figured out, we nailed this one from the start. PAX modified up with a number of Squat variations): Squat wave of fire. Pax low squat hold then sequentially bang out 1 squat, then, 2, 3, 4, 5.

This is where the ME ended for Nightshift, so I had to come up with something on the fly. We moseyed back up Boyd to the half walk near the end for some Johnny Dramas and Toe Taps.
Moseyed along East Main to Al's Burger Shack for some step ups and 1 legged kickstand squats on the low brick wall. YHC was informed he'd be receiving the PT bills for this one…)
We moseyed back to start, with one final stop at the bollards along the old garage's parking lot for 3 Apollo Creeds each arm.

Upon return to StartEx, we had 18 final burpees to complete the 43 bonus burpees (BurpBack Mountain totals didn't count for this…). A set of 10 6 count, followed by a set of 8 8 count manmakers finished the bonus round ahead of Mary.

MARY:
On a rainy morning, the chosen exercises were fitting…
Sea Turtles – 10 Tempo
Mermaids – 10 each side
Stretching

ANNOUNCEMENTS / COT:
Prayers for Spelunker's M as she continues her recovery. Big milestone this week with a walk without the walker!
Prayers for Youse-Down's father, as he continues his recovery from a stroke.
Prayers for Gridlock as he prepares for possibly WW IV with his parents visiting this weekend.
Prayers for Yoyo.

YHC took us out with a message of resilience. In my travels through the backblasts, I came across an event from 2014, The Resurgence. Early in F3 Churham's existence, it was struggling with attendance. Churham enlisted the help of F3 Nation and F3 Raleigh, F3 Brier Creek and F3 Charlotte all answered the call (with a 3:45 wake up for those Queen City folks!). YHC mentioned how we grow through our struggles and when we stumble, and not to focus on the set back, but focus on the strength, resilience, and learning used and gained from that struggle. Aye!
