Crazy Count Century Merkins, Hit the Deck and Do the Roly Poly

November 22, 2017

WHEN: 11/22/2017
QIC: Avalanche and Soybean
PAX: Assisi, Avalanche, Ballboy, Buffay, Crabcake, Driftwood, Ham Hock, Heisenberg, Knope, Loonie, Maestro, Sonar, Soybean, Zumba

Fourteen thankful PAX showed up in the CGS parking lot ready to earn their turkey and stuffing. The overnight rain gave the pavement a slight sheen that glistened in the pre-dawn moonlight, which would come in handy for those who, as one PAX said, “won’t need a shower today.” Avalanche demolished the picturesque scene by shouting “circle up over here.” And so it began…

Warm Up (IC)

Side Shuffle Hops > Seal Claps x50

Willy Mays Hayes x12

The Moroccan Nightclub x50

Imperial Walkers x12

The Thang

Side Shuffle to top of northwest parking lot near the entrance at Garrett Road. Continue to travel south by way of Karaoke, Run at 75%, But-kickers, High-knees.

Circle up in southern lot for Merkins.

PAX knocked out 100 reps in a modified Merkin Pyramid:

28 [1 through 7]

17 [8 and 9]

10 [10]

17 [9 and 8]

13 [7 and 6]

9 [5 and 4]

6 [3, 2, and 1)

Follow-me counterclockwise around CGS back to the north lots and partner up. Speed bump to speed bump we Partner Carried uphill toward Garrett Road, swapped with our partners at the top, and Partner Carried back to start. Mountain Climbers until all PAX returns.

Repeat the Partner Carry Mountain Climber series.

Follow-me to coupons pile in the Northeast lot, and every team grab something heavy. Mosey to a section about mid-way up the northeast lot. A metal exercise was called for Partner 1, and Partner 2 runs at to wall at CGS for ten hip slappers before running back to start point. Now swap with your partner. Lock out or plank out until each team finishes.

Repeat. We cycled through curls and overhead presses, then took the steel back home.

Half way point and Soybean takes the keys…

 Soybean explained that he’d spent the last two weeks in Seattle since his co-VQ, where F3 Puget Sound is growing and expanding every week.  While there, he felt like an old dog picking up a couple new tricks, which he was eager to share with the PAX back home.

The first was the “Deck of Death” workout, which involves using a deck of cards to dictate what happens next. In our case, this meant:

Clubs = Clap-at-the-Top Burpees
Diamonds = Carolina Dry Docks
Spades = Sumo Squats
Hearts = WW2s (aka “WW1s” for your nervous second-time)

Number of moves matches number on the card. Jacks = 11, Queens = 12, Kings =13, Aces = 14; Jokers = Surprise!

Sprint to the top of the CGS parking lot, pull 3 cards, sprint to the entrance and 3 more.

Crabcake pulls a Joker. Time for some “Roly Poly” – 2 Merkins, roll over for 5 LBCs and over and over and over down the parking lot to the first speed bump. Did I mention it had rained overnight (which did not quite approximate the pouring rain of the workouts YHC experienced in Seattle…bless those boys in the Sound from Nov – Apr, it ain’t pretty)?

Three cards at speed bump, sprint to bottom of lot, four cards there, sprint back to origin for 3 final cards. You got to know when to fold ’em, after all.

Mary

Q asks PAX for their favorite Mary move and the crew settles on 50 Flutter Kicks led by Knope, then Avalanche closes it out.

COT

Announcements included a reminder that Thanksgiving Day workouts were on, including a convergence / double-down opportunity at Thin Blue Line (TBL).

Prayers asked for a PAX that continues a valiant battle with cancer, for everyone involved in foster care and adoption, and a well-received reminder of all that can make us grateful, especially at this time of year…and especially for being part of a group of guys that get up at the crack of dawn to do crazy things that make one another’s lives immensely better.
