Black Ice is real…just as Zook

January 19, 2018

WHEN: 01/19/2018
QIC: RG3
PAX: Rambler, Chum, Zook, Golden Pinky, Boyardee, Marky Mark, Chef Tell, Horny Toad, Griswold, 8-Bit, Breach

YHC arrived at the AO early to do some recon given the Snowmeggedon 2018. 4 Pax were already gathered for EC pull-ups under the AO pavilion which was mostly free from snow and ice. This would be our circle-up space today.

As we gathered under cover, YHC noticed a lone rucker headed towards the group. Zook confidently strolled towards the group but hit an icy patch en route and was promptly on his back looking at the stars.  Fortunately, Zook recovered quickly and joined the group no worse for the wear. This event and earlier recon forced a change of YHC’s loosely baked plans to avoid even more slips and falls. 12 PAX were ready to go:

Warmup

  • Windmills (IC x10)
    • 1 Burpees OYO
  • Squat Jumps (x20)
    • 2 Burpees OYO
  • Arm CIrcles (IC x10)
    • 3 Burpees OYO
  • Arm CIrcles Reverse (IC x10)
    • 4 Burpees OYO
  • SSH (IC x 51)
    • 5 Burpees OYO

The Thang

Dips and Derkins
  • Half group Dips, other half Derkins (IC x12)
  • Rinse and Repeat x2
Bataan Death March (part 1)
  • Meandered around the black ice stretching from the AO down to BC Parkway. From there, lined up and did a Bataan Death March toward the Big House AO, where I was assured the parking lot was clear.
  • Last guy in line drops for 4 burpees, then sprints to front of line and taps the next (last) guy in line who then drops to do 4 burpees.  Continue to the Big House parking lot.
Merkin Pyramid
  • Up to 10 and back down to 1 with some mumble chatter and jokes along the way.
  • From this point forward, anyone who gets a pre-determined nickname shall have been “Golden Pinky’d”. HT, Boyardee. Inspired by the suggestion of “Snot Rocket” for our next FNG.
Bataan Death March (part 2)
  • Continue the death march back to the Wall (note, burpees were much harder following the pyramid).

Mary

  • Flutter Kicks IC x15
  • Heels to Heaven IC x15
  • American Hammers IC x20
  • Great American Heros x 20

BOM

As site Q, YHC knew that the time would come where either he or Mothman would have to step in when a planned Q couldn’t make it. The time came yesterday around 4pm which left little time for planning and, subsequently, made YHC uncomfortable.

But I was reminded of a Navy Seal quote to “be comfortable being uncomfortable”.  The point is for them to stay focused on what they need to accomplish, despite how uncomfortable they feel. The sooner you can find a way to stay focused—no matter what situation you’re in—the better. Life will make you feel uncomfortable, but that doesn’t ever have to stop you. Remember, it’s a good thing to feel uncomfortable. It means you’re moving forward, exploring new territory, and bettering yourself.

Moleskin

  • Marky Mark was quite POd when YHC didn’t stop SSH at 50. If he had only waited one more rep.
  • 8-Bit had a huge first week with F3 attending all BC bootcamps.
  • Kudos to Griswold for his first post at The Wall.
