Becoming Dangerous

March 5, 2018

WHEN: 03/05/2018
QIC: Bright Idea
PAX: As Is, Beanbag, Breach, Cold Call, 8-Bit, Fieri, Flenderson, Germ, Goat Cheese, Golden Pinky, Griswold, GTL, Hickory, Horny Toad, ICE, Knope, Mothman, Nanu Nanu, Rambler, Stick, Yanni, Zook

Introduction:
I volunteered to be the stand-in Q for Skynyrd due to an injury. I chose to go with a Marine Corps theme due to the limited prep time and because it’s not in the comfort zone of many people. (This ties in with the CoT discussion). Four PAX

Warm-O-Rama:
Imperial Squat Walkers (x20)
Angle Grinders (x10)
Side Straddle Hops (x20)
Arm Circles (x20)

The THANG:

We created two ranks, did a “Right Face” and began a Bataan Death March (I encourage everyone to research the actual Bataan Death March) towards the soccer fields. During the march I sang out a hastily written Cadence to keep us in step:

Up in the morning before the sun. 24 PAX about to go get some.
Disclaimer, Warm-up, 1 2 3. Headcount done, let’s mosey.
Holy cow this Q’s insane. Us Churham boys will bring the pain.
Burpees, air squats, bear crawl. Surf jacks, sprints, balls to the wall.
Mary can be a real bitch. Ring of fire pushups until arms twitch.
Name-a-rama and C of T. Time to name that F N G.
Huddle up, word of motivation. Clown car home, represent F3 nation

Not long after we crossed Andrews Store Road, I.C.E. had a significant encounter with a stealth vehicle gate. The gate appeared to have won. Once our first casualty was evacuated we continued the march to the battlefield to conduct preparations for war: We learned the Basic Warrior Stance followed by the response “GET SOME”. The Jab, Cross, Push Kick, Roundhouse Kick, Kick from a ground position, and finally the Arm Bar. Each exercise began with the command “EXECUTE” and the group responded with “KILL”. When Training was complete we went to battle.

Battle #1: Start on opposing sides, bear crawl to engagement area, pick out an opponent and engage in a plank fist bump. The men who lost their battle did WW2s in perpetuity and the victors moved on to the next opponent. Once the fog of war cleared the PAX could make out the last men standing – a Menage A Trois, if you will. Since it involved Goat Cheese and Yanni we decided to call a draw.

Battle #2: Similar to Battle #1 but we injected some strategy into this battle. We introduced a Critical Vulnerability and Center of Gravity. The CV (once removed) results in an immediate victory. The COG (once engaged with) is instant death for any opponent unless against another COG. Once again the fog of war was thick and I believe a rematch was deemed appropriate. Amidst the battle cries, clashing of fists, and the lamentations of the WW2 victims I heard someone ask “Is this how real war is fought?” The answer in a way is yes. Learning point: Yanni and Goat Cheese are both dangerous warriors.

CoT:

Mary: Flutter Kicks, Back Plank leg lifts, and Boat/Canoe
Announcements: Sign up for the Gambler (March 24) by adding your name to the google sheet found on the slack channel.

The Quote(s):
“A harmless man is not a good man. A good man is a very dangerous man who has that under voluntary control.”
“Hard times create Great men, Great men create Great times, Great times create Weak men, Weak men create Hard times”

The Message:
We are living in a really great time in history. Great men have sacrificed everything to provide our generations with the gift of freedom. Gambler’s fallacy and confirmation bias have made us believe the great times will never end, there will always be plenty of extra to share, and the stock market will never crash again. I challenge you to ignore the opinions of harmless and weak men. Do not pursue comfort, self-interest, and harmlessness. Humans are horrible predictors of what makes them happy. Instead pursue discomfort, discipline, and a virtuous life. Make yourself dangerous. Take every opportunity to lead. Gain power from competence not position or force. A day will come when the weak around us cower to malevolence. Study the history of malevolent men and be comfortable with the task of taking a Basic Warrior Stance if the situation requires it.
