Battle of Puebla

May 4, 2018

WHEN: 05/04/2018
QIC: Nickelback
PAX: Toast McQueen, Virgo, Nubbin, Head Gear, Cyanide, Fish & Chips, Pusher, Doi, Soda Popinski, Limburger, Cortes, Sir Mix-a-lot, Roach, Foghorn Leghorn, Justice, Buffay, Blackball, Blistex, Nickelback(Q)

Today we celebrated the 1 yr anniversary of Hillsborough’s first official site launch, Duck & Weave. Pax poured in from Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Durham to mark the occasion. YHC had the privilege of Qing the original launch on May 5, 2017. However, the original launch backblast was lost in the recent site migration so it only seemed fitting to carry on the tradition of honoring Cinco de Mayo with a history lesson Q for our 1 yr anniversary to ensure future generations of F3 Churham Pax members learned the meaning of Cinco de Mayo…you know in case Wikipedia ever loses its entry due to a similar site migration.

Warm-up

  • Overhead Clappers: 20x
  • Seal Clappers: 19x hmmmm the Pax feel sorry for YHC for not having the stamina to make it to 20…
  • Squats: 20x
  • Prisoner Squats: 19x hmmm weird….
  • Calf Raises: 39x hmm getting weirder…
  • SSHs: 39x Pax no longer cares about numbers…

YHC informs the Pax that we just completed 156 reps to signify how ~156 years ago Cinco de Mayo was born. It would be a themed workout better than the original!

The Thang

Civil War!

The Pax divided up between 1s and 2s. Each team went to a designated cone in the parking lot. They learned that it was 1858 and Mexico was beginning a bloody Civil War with the 1s representing the Conservatives and the 2s representing the Liberals. The teams would be competing against one another.

1858: Hand Release Merkins

YHC explained the challenge was to see which team could complete as many hand release merkins during the Mexican Mariachi Party song YHC had preselected the night before. With that the two sides of the war readied themselves for punishment. “La Cucaracha” by Mariachi Aguila Real played for 2 min 30 seconds and then the teams added up the count. Team 1 (Conservatives) had over 500 reps Team 2 (Liberals) had over 400 reps. Team 1 takes the first challenge.

1859: Sit-ups

YHC then explained the Civil War was entering its 2nd year. Time for a new song so YHC chose La Bamba and a new workout, the classic sit-up. Pax members partnered up with the rule that the partners needed to switch who was standing and who was performing the situp. The max allowed by one partner was 30 consecutive reps. Team 1 must have enjoyed La Bamba more because they took this challenge as well!

The Results:

While Pax members were in squat holds YHC explained that while Team 1 the Conservatives won the exercise challenges Team 2, the Liberals made an epic comeback and won the Civil War. However, the country needed to heal and reform brotherly bonds!

1860 Reconciliation Walk

We lined up in front of Weaver St Market facing north on Churton St. YHC explained healing between brothers would happen by linking up one by one. The catch was we would be bending over and reaching in front and behind, between our legs and the legs of the person in front of you. 1 Block does not seem like a long time until you are doing the reconciliation walk uphill and the traffic light turns red. We had at least 1 sighting of a driver taking photos-perfecto! At the end of the block we arrived at Bandido’s Mexican Cafe which seemed like a good place to stop.

1861 Ring of Fire

We circled up for some ring of fire. YHC told the Pax that unfortunately our country, Mexico was broke. We were no longer paying our foreign debt payments so it was time to feel the (cash) burn with some Ring of Fire Exercises. We played the Johnny Cash classic on the bluetooth speaker while completing the following around the circle:

  • Squat Hold/Burpee
  • Plank/Scrum Jump
  • Squat Hold

1861 Foreign Diplomats Demand Payment

We moseyed over to the Orange County library and circled up. Unfortunately, our creditors were on their way to collect payment. They were official diplomats from Spain, Britain, and France. So naturally, we completed….

  • Boat/Canoes 10x

1862 Retreat!

It was time reteat to try to outrun our creditors. Unfortunately YHC pulled a hammy dunking over Champ in an F3 pickup game so here is how we “ran”

  • Crab walks up 1 floor up of the parking deck…congrats we lost the British!
  • Reverse runs up another floor….congrats we lost the Spanish!
  • Karoake up to the top of the deck…oops the French are still with us!

May 1862 Battle of Puebla

It was time. We had retreated as far as we could go. We were on top of the parking deck representing the city of Puebla. It was time for some battle cry booya workouts to take on the French invaders!

  • Partner Merkin Booyas! 10x
  • Partner Burpee Booyas! 10x

YHC announced that although outnumbered 3 to 1 we had prevailed in the Battle of Puebla! We celebrated by bringing in a Boo ya cheer and raced down the stairs.

Mary

We moseyed down to “Bolas Negras” the black ball art pieces at the front of the Riverwalk and YHC turned it over to some epic 5 min of Mary to Buffay to honor his effort in stepping up to lead the first expansion site in Hillsborough, The Rock on Mondays 0530.

  • Chilcutts but harder- plank to chilcutts until your elbows started to bleed over and over and over again…that’s YHC memory at least
  • Modified Heels to Heaven/Freddie Mercuries/LBCs- one after another to feel the core explode…that’s YHC memory at least
  • Then YHC just had to throw in a Suzanne Somers round while looking at Nubbin to cap off a great, awkward exercise routine

COT

  • F2 Hillsborough Reminder, Monthly Social 3rd Wednesday see Slack for more
  • The Possom happening this summer see Nubbin for details to join the triathlon of running, biking, tubing the Eno River during the hottest day of the year, open to all with cookout afterward!
  • Prayers for Buffay and his Mom preparing for surgery Monday

Moleskin

You would think after nearly 1,000 words YHC would have little left to say. One more thing, “Thank you!” Thank you for F3 founding fathers starting this crazy thing, for the leaders of Riggs and Adolphus for starting Churham region and all the Pax that support the Northern Region and all those that come out regularly to make it the special place it is. Here is to another great year!
