Being honest – when Knope, Bellhop, and YHC discussed dates to have the Hard Launch for Romper Room, YHC never even considered that 8/31, being in August, would be part of Labor Day weekend, which is (obviously) a September holiday. So about a week ago, when YHC realized that this was in fact true, YHC had some trepidation that Romper Room would be sparsely attended for Launch Day. We had already had two successful Soft Lauch days, but could we keep it going over a holiday weekend with many PAX traveling?

YHC was pleased to discover his fears to be unfounded! A total of 38 circled up for Warm-o-rama, and Romper Room was officially Hard Launched into the annals of history.

Warm-up

  • SSH x 20
  • WMH x 10
  • Merkin IC x 5
  • Mountain Climber x 10
  • Squat IC x 5
  • LBAC/Reverse x 10 each

Thang

Take a warm-up lap around the soccer field, and gather in the far corner.

  • Run at a speed of your choosing along the soccer field goal line to the other corner. Many 2.0s chose The Sprint
  • Merkin x 10 IC
  • Bear Crawl to cone YHC had placed on the field: midway from goal line to half field, and about 10-15 yards in from the sideline
  • 5 Burpees OYO
  • Crawl Bear from this cone to midfield corner
  • Merkin x 10 IC
  • Backward Run along the midfield line to the other sideline
  • Squats x 10 IC
  • Crab Walk to cone YHC had placed on the field: mirror image to one on the other side
  • 5 Burpees OYO
  • Walk Crab back to original corner
  • Squats x 10 IC (called this time by Frozone)
  • *Note – I truly have no idea if Crab Walk is feet first or head first: so the PAX were instructed to change directions for their “Walk Crab”

Water Break: 2-3 minutes. This is not exactly traditional in F3 workouts, but YHC has found his 2.0s constantly are asking for water during workouts, and so he decided to formally build them in.

  • Kid-Carry Shuttle Run: Start on goal line. Pick up your 2.0 (or multiple 2.0s, if you got ’em), carry to 6 yard box and deposit there; run back to goal line. Carry 2.0 from 6 yard box to 18 yard box, deposit there; run back to goal line. Carry 2.0 from 18 yard box to midfield, deposit there, run back to goal line. Carry 2.0 from midfield to 18 yard box , deposit there, run back to goal line. Carry 2.0 from 18 yard box to 6 yard box, deposit there; run back to goal line. Carry 2.0 back to goal line.
  • While 2.0s wait for their adult, instructed to perform SSH. Or Burpees if they were feeling ambitious. Frozone suggested Merkins, which was also deemed acceptable. Point was to do *some* exercise while waiting.
  • We did the entire sequence twice

Water Break 2-3 minutes

  • Sharks and Minnows in the 18 yard box. Round 1 – kids start as Sharks and must Bear Crawl. Minnows get to run. Round 2 – adults start as Sharks and must Crab Walk; Minnows get to run. The Minnows did not adhere very well to the “stay inside the 18 yard box” rule, but eventually Round 2 ended. Round 3 – a repeat of Round 1.

Water Break – 30 seconds, and the back to the midfield circle for…

Mary

  • American Hammer/Flutter Kick/LBCs/Plank Jack/WWIs

Concluded about 2 minutes early and devoted the time to an extended Name-O-Rama. We had 7 new people to name: 5 Friendly new Kids, 1 Friendly new M, and 1 Friendly new Father-in-Law (though technically, I guess, he just counts as an FNG). The group named well and quickly, and IT stepped up to take us out.

Moleskin

As mentioned above, YHC has been extremely pleased that the idea of Romper Room has resonated with so many. It is a great way to show PAX’s families what this F3 thing is all about, as well as a great opportunity to introduce a lifetime of fitness to the 2.0s. Today we had 11 established PAX, 5 M’s, and 21 2.0s. Really awesome to see the kids out there getting after it; working hard and enjoying every second. We’ve got a good thing started, and YHC is excited to see where it goes from here.

SYITG, Aye!
