Pushing the Earth Down

January 24, 2018

WHEN: 01/24/2018
QIC: Chum
PAX: Bunyan, Chum

(This dude is I how I envision the Earl of Chatham)

YHC arrived at The Earl and anxiously awaited the Pax.  Just as I thought I’d be rolling solo, Bunyan drives up and executes a textbook brake slide into the adjacent parking space.  Shovel flag planted, and off we went:

Warm-Up

  • Imperial Walkers
  • Arm Circles
  • Quad Stretch
  • Slow Merkins

Main Event

Derkin & Dips Elevenses: Move to the benches. 10 reps of derkins and 1 dip, then 9 derkins and 2 dips, then 8 and 3, and so on down to 1 and 10.  Combined count always equals elevenses.

Run down Salisbury Street to the parking lot of the vacant brick building with the faux water tower (about ¼ mile).  Line up along first parking space.  10 merkins, then bear crawl 1 space.  9 merkins, crawl 2 spaces.  8 merkins, crawl 3 spaces.  So on and so forth, down to 1 merkin and crawling 10 spaces.  Disclaimer: around the 8- or 9-space mark, YHC decided to substitute crab walk for bear crawl.  End result – ouch.

Run down East St to Courthouse / Traffic Circle.

  • 1 min AMRAP Hand-Release Merkins; take a lap around circle
  • 1 min AMRAP Floyd Mayweathers; take a lap
  • 1 min AMRAP combo HR-Merkin with Floyd Mayweathers at top; take a lap

Mary:

  • We’ll call this Powerboat/Canoe, based on Carpex version of boat/canoe. On your six, start at canoe (knees to chest, sitting up slightly, hands at sides).  Go to boat (lower your upper body back down & extend legs, feet 6 inches off ground) and hold for 4-count.  Then a 4-count FK.
  • LBCs

COT:

Speaking of Earls, who remembers that show, “My Name is Earl”?  I only ever watched one or two episodes, but I still found the show’s general plot a bit interesting.  The gist of the show was a ne’er-do-well named Earl wins the lottery and then decides to right past wrongs.  Earl summed up his epiphany:

“You know the kind of guy who does nothing but bad things and then wonders why his life sucks? Well, that was me. Every time something good happened to me, something bad was always waiting around the corner: karma. That’s when I realized that I had to change, so I made a list of everything bad I’ve ever done and one by one I’m gonna make up for all my mistakes.

I’m just trying to be a better person. My name is Earl.”

Just try to be a better person.  My name is Chum.
