#SubprimePartyof8

July 26, 2017

WHEN: 07/26/2017
QIC: Coco
PAX: Slum Dog, Timber, MARTA, Subprime, Misery, Beano, Ricky Bobby, Cheese Splint, Shanks, Pedialyte, The Strowd, Vandely, Champ, Walt, Coco

5 PAX rode the Pine for an EC run that continues to humble even our strongest runners.  No better way to get better than to tackle on of the steepest (and seemingly longest?) inclines in Churham.

A relatively cool(-ish) morning welcomed an additional 10 PAX to Rameses  – and most importantly – the return of beloved Site Q Subprime.  If you’ve been living under a rock for the past weeks (and you’re now reading this; welcome out of your hole) – SP & his family have been blessed to welcome 2 beautiful identical twin boys Zayden and Levy to their new home last week.  It’s been an amazing thing to observe and follow as they’ve patiently proceeded through an all-too-slow process.  Welcome home Zay & Levy!!

In honor of the newly-expanded Myers family (#partyof8) and the addition of their twins (2, duh) – we made 8 and 2 our key numbers of the day.

The Warm Up
SSH (X25 IC)
Good Mornings (x10 IC)
Windmills (x10 IC)
BWS (x10 IC)
Arm Circles (x10 fwd IC; x10 rev IC)

Merkins

  • Regular grip (x8 SC); 2 Burpees (OYO)
  • Wide grip (x8 SC); 2 Burpees (OYO)
  • Diamond grip (x8 SC); 2 Burpees (OYO)
  • Offset grip (left hand up/right hand back: x8 SC); 2 Burpees (OYO)
  • Offset grip (right hand up/left hand back: x8 SC); 2 Burpees (OYO)
  • Spider Man merkins (right knee-right elbow; left knee-left elbow: x8 SC); 2 Burpees (OYO)
  • Superman merkins (x8 IC); 2 Burpees

In honor of the twin 2.0s (officially 2.5 & 2.6!) the PAX were instructed to find their figurative twin for the morning.  Partner up with buddy of similar size/weight/hairstyle/geological sign.  If that proves too difficult… just grab the man next to you.

Buddy carry back out to South Road and to the stairs adjacent to UNC Student Stores (.7 miles).
Partners were encouraged to switch early and often (but most of us were too hard-headed and didn’t want to stop).  When switching; both partners do 8 merkins & 2 burpees.  Keep trucking until reaching the destination.
(Editor’s note: YHC had selected the Clydesdale known as Shanks.  Part horse, part rhino…I don’t think he even noticed I was clinging to his back as he charged down South Rd!)

Now that we were perfectly positioned at the bottom of the stairs leading up to The Pit – we took advantage and initiated our Jacob’s Ladder:  8 merkins at the top + 2 burpees at the bottom.  Always totally 10, we worked back down to 2 merkins at the top and 8 burpees at the bottom.  Recover while holding in derkin position (legs elevated on the stone wall); 10 derkins to finish.

Saddle up again for the return.  This time our goal destination was Hooker Field, continuing to switch (and tally 8 merkins + 2 burpees each time) until arriving.

A quick glimpse at the wrist clock told us it was already time to hustle back.  The PAX used the final 5 minutes to get back to OEC for COT.
