A group of intrepid adventurers assembled in a dark, gloomy parking lot at 06:00 this morning. For mid-February, the weather was actually reasonably pleasant and we warmed up quickly. I look forward to these Saturday morning rucks to varying degrees, depending upon my level of sleep debt, but am always happy afterwards and thankful to have evacuated the fartsack. Having sweat on your back, a big dose of camaraderie, and often a beautiful sunrise under your belt by the time most people are waking up is uniquely satisfying. Big Sky came the furthest, Germ had the shiniest backpack, and the mumblechatter was spot on. I was pulling a double-Q, with Sunnyside immediately following, so had to cut things a little short today. In way of apology, I showed the crew my favorite, and somewhat secret, trail running/mountain biking trails but had to push a brisk pace. We finished right on time at 7:30, as if I was completely dialed in as a master rucker, though this route pretty much just takes 90 minutes.
Nature highlight: beaver dams galore
Man-made highlight: remains of old homestead hidden in the woods
Mumblechatter highlight: in response to learning that Germ received a brand-new “Go-Ruck” backpack as a Valentine’s present, someone (not sure who) lamented that they hadn’t even received an “open-mouth” kiss for Valentine’s.
It was a pleasure, gentlemen, and thank you for indulging my early exit.
Ruckfully yours,
Stinky Pete
