The Terrible Mile

13 PAX gathered to enjoy this balmy 45 degree winter morning.  We began with a fairly typical warm-up: 25 SSH, 10 Willie Mays Hayes, and 8 good mornings before moseying over to the track.  While YHC is normally resolute about his annual fitness goals, he’s perpetually negligent in an annual resolution to do more stretching.  So, he rounded out the warm-up with four dynamic stretching exercises: walking leg raises, walking lateral ankle lifts, walking quad stretches, and walking lunges.
Sufficiently warmed up, and somewhat stretched out, YHC had two possible workouts in mind for this morning, so posed the question to the PAX whether they’d prefer to cover 1/4 mile or 1 mile this fine morning.  The quick response from one PAX was 1/4 mile, but sensing trickery, this was quickly over-ruled and we settled on the mile…
After a fast 400, the PAX paired off with the fastest/slowest together, second fastest / second slowest, etc.  With our organization complete, the challenge was explained… Each pair would complete four laps around the track with each pair setting off in the opposite directions until they met up and then reversed directions.  The chosen methods of locomotion were: 1) crab walk, 2) broad jump, 3) bear crawl, 4) lunge walk.  Just that easy…
With 7 minutes left for Mary, the PAX lined up opposite their partners and alternated 5 merkins while the partner planked.  After 3 minutes, we moved on to 15 cadence count J-Lo’s, and then wrapped up with a two minutes of plank.
What was the 1/4 mile option?  Come back Feb-14 to find out…
COT:
1) In addition to our fitness, always remember the other elements of your health wellness.  Thanks Kevin for the prompt to get our flu shots since it’s supposed to be a particularly bad year for the flu.  And, please help keep YHC honest with his stretching this year.
2) We’re missing Home’s incessant texting to not fartsack, get out for EC, etc.  This is a good reminder that we’re all F3 ambassadors, and take the opportunity to EH and FNG, find a long lost PAX, etc.
3) And finally, at the end of each day, take a moment to reflect whether you’re better or worse off for the effort you put in.  Go get it!
