The Slow Burn

December 16, 2017

WHEN: 12/16/2017
QIC: Rambler
PAX: Beanbag, DOI, RG3

An early-morning-anything is daunting after a night of fellowship and libations. Will anyone show? Will the PAX be running on empty? Will YHC fartsack? Fortunately, YHC arrived just as DOI and his 4-legged companion drove in. RG3 appeared out of thin air, and Beanbag rolled up in just-in-time fashion.

Warmup:

We were all eager to get moving. The warmup consisted of shaking hands and bumping fists. Then we were off! Rucking provides that nice slow-burn. It provides a great opportunity for mumblechatter which, along with the notion that you are ‘just walking’ (albeit with a loaded backpack), often causes me to forget how much effort the act of rucking exerts.

The Thang:

Strava can explain it better than me. In short, we put in 6 earnest miles along the perimeter of Briar Chapel.

Cooldown:

The temperature was below freezing, we were plenty cool… In addition at least one of us needed to grab their 2.0 and head to sunnyside for a kid-friendly smokefest courtesy of Stinky Pete.

BOM:

YHC has had a weird week, watching from too close a position a crazy experience at work, and a crazier one right outside my front door. In potentially volatile interpersonal communication, be mindful that in every interaction with another person you may have no idea what they’ve gone through today, yesterday, 1 year ago….30 years ago….and even further back. Be careful in your words,  tone, and actions else you may get an unexpected reaction. As they say, “don’t mistake my kindness for weakness”.  Until next time!
