The Plan

WHEN: 01/04/2018
QIC: Bright.Idea
PAX: Golden Pinky, Griswold, Grunge, Rambler

Introduction:

This is my first AMRAP Q and it was a swap with Chef Tell. The weather was a big question mark so I was nervous I’d be the only out there. To my surprise we had 5 PAX arrive (mostly) on time and eager to embrace the day’s workout.

Warm-O-Rama:

50 side straddle hops
40 arm circles
Willy mays hays
20 crab kicks
Grab the kettlebells and mosey to the pull-up bars
Rambler asked if it was a good idea to wear his ruck, I quickly said no. We performed an impromptu kettlebell toss down the snow covered hill, possibly as an extension of our warmup.

The THANG:

Once we arrived at the pull up bars I explained the plan: “collectively the five of us are going to attempt a total of 400 pull-ups, 800 KB swings, and 1000 lunges before 6:30am.”

We ended at 6:30 with 397 pull-ups, ~450 swings, and ~750 lunges. This was a non-stop all-out effort until the end.

CoT:

I made a reference to a quote by a SEAL that explained that once you hit a wall and your body and mind begin to quit you still have 40% left. If you don’t push yourself to and passed this wall you can’t get stronger mentally or physically. (My face was numb from the cold so it may not have been stated so eloquently). Following this undisputed fact in which I found on the internet (where only facts reside) we did 2 minutes OYO max pushups.

BoM:

Told the story of Marine Combat Engineer Rob Jones who lost both his legs in Afghanistan then decided to run 31 marathons in 31 days.

During interviews he discussed (summarized):
Saving up energy through pursuing comfort and rest will not provide strength or preparedness if/when the struggle of life gets heavier. Strength can only be achieved when life provides you with struggle and hardship, frustration and pain to overcome. If you don’t begin to see these events as opportunities to get stronger you will remain weak and eventually get crushed. Be grateful when the world’s weight comes down on you, use it to get stronger. Use it to make the people around you stronger. Lift that weight over your head over and over and over with a grin on your face. “rep that shit”
