INTRO

The stars (and moon) aligned with perfect weather for a Blair Witch themed run through the woods. On my scouting mission the previous week I stumbled upon a huge gobbler, which was the influence for the “As-Is 10 Count.” After a brief disclaimer about a treacherous ditch on the trail, 7 brave runners circled up and got down to business.

THE THANG

With energy high and time short, we headed down BC pkwy towards the Wall. The mumblechatter was high, which was an auspicious start. We took a right up the big hill towards Encore (Boone St?) and continued our brisk pace to the end of Encore. After taking the trail that runs to Constellation Park, we stopped at a gravel road for a second disclaimer about the ditches. Confident that no PAX would break anything on my watch, we continued to the trail head for a Grunge 10 count.

Following some weak assurances from YHC that this was in fact Briar Chapel property, we nevertheless took off into the woods. Shortly thereafter we came across an old abandoned shack. YHC offered up $5.00 to anyone who was brave enough to go inside, but there were no takers. With just a bit of unease, we continued on and stopped at the first clearing for an “As-Is 10 Count” (much different from the normal 10-count, more on this later).

Dodging some holes, roots, and logs, we finally arrived at the end of the trail, which was groomed quite nicely. Time for another As-Is 10 Count, which was actually answered by some local gobblers. (For those that haven’t been turkey hunting, you can use a crow call to locate turkeys within hearing distance of the call. They will gobble when they hear it, which if you’ve never witnessed it is actually quite cool).

We turned around and head back towards the Big House. After a quick detour around one of the many BC retention ponds to eat up a bit more time, we headed back to the Clubhouse parking lot, where there was no time for MARY. Rather than the 4 mile run I had anticipated, we ended up notching a solid 5.1!

BOM

April is notoriously a tough month of work for me. Rather than internalizing the stress of it all, this year I forced myself to get out to more F3 workouts and stay active (see turkey hunting), and it has made all the difference. I’m very grateful to F3 and my F3 brothers for their support and encouragement in getting me through to the other side. As a side note, I have found that when times get really tough or you’re just having a bad day, sometimes the best thing you can do is help someone else out with their problems, rather than continuing to focus on your own. Just try it sometime. As always, it was my privilege to lead you men today. Thank you for coming out and for your continued support. Aye!

Moleskin

  • Great to see my old tennis buddy Ruxpin come out today for my Q. Very humorous story about what happens to a diesel engine when you use regular gas.
  • Yanni seemed nonplussed when we interrupted his run home with a loud crow call from the car window.
