Out of Hibernation

February 16, 2018

WHEN: 02/16/2018
QIC: Foghorn Leghorn
PAX: Appomatox, Slug, Uzi, Swingline, Kitten, Horney Toad, Goat Cheese, Grunge
With the coming of spring, the air warms, the birds sing, the daffodils bloom, the pollen falls, and the wondrous Ursa Americans, or American Black Bear, emerges from its den and along winter of hibernation. Having been sedentary for several months, the bear craves not only a good meal, but some stretching and exercise. And so, this morning we satisfy that beast, and the desire for exercise to shake of the stiffness of a long sleep.

Warmup:
SSH x25, WMH x10, Windmills x10, Imperial Walkers x10, Mountain climbers x10, Arm Circles (Fwd & Reverse) x10, Merkins x10
The Main Event:
PAX then moseyed to the Libba Cotten bike path for 5 moving exercises from the Cemetery to Brewer Lane. The PAX completed:  Traveling Burpees, Lunge Walk, Imperial Walker, Side straddle lunges, Bunny Hops, switching exercises at each light pole along the path
The clan then returned to the Parking deck via Franklin/Main Street.
At this point PAX were warmed up and starting to emerge from hibernation. The group, in proper Ursa Americans style, did Crawl Bear up the six flights of stairs to the roof of the garage, stopping for 30 Air Squats on level 4.
Emerging from our den, onto the roof, the clan paused but briefly to enjoy the spring weather, quickly realized that perhaps we weren’t fully warmed up and that there was in fact a bit more winter to come. To return to our den down below, PAX pairs completed a Downward DORA – 100 Merkins, 200 LBCs, and 300 Squats –  with one partner descending one flight of stairs and then running the ramp back up to their partner who was performing the exercise. Once each pair completed the reps for an exercise, the pair descended two levels and completed, the next exercise, moving down to Level 1 as they completed their 300 Squats.
It was at this point that YHC realized he had greatly underestimated the speed of the clan – Bears can run almost 30 miles per hour! –  and that we still had 21 minutes of fun to fill. (#61minutes is a long time to Q!).
The clan moseyed over to Weaver Street Market for 3 rounds of Dips, Single Leg step ups, and Dirkins (15,10,5), and from there ambled back to the AO at Rise.
Mary
Mary was round robin affair with two rounds of Ring of Fire Merkins, Long Slow Flutter, 60 second Plank, WWII, Freddy Mercury, (Tar)Heels to Heaven, LBCs and dynamic plank stretches as we eased back into our dens for a few more days of winter.
