New Boots, New Ruckers!

February 3, 2018

WHEN: 02/03/2018
QIC: Rambler
PAX: DOI, Germ, Mothman, Nacho Libre, Rambler, RG3, Stinky Pete, Toby the Dog, Eddie the Dog

YHC was super nervous about the Ruck today. After a 20 mile Ruck last week indicated my new boots were, in fact, too small, I was left with 2 pinky toes that resembled cherry tomatoes and felt like they were on fire. I overnighted some Salomon Speed Assaults as I have a Goruck Heavy in two weeks and all of my trail shoes are Salomon’s and fit near-perfect. Anyway, one could say I was slightly nervous about the next two hours.

Stinky Pete and RG3 signed on the Pathfinder Forward Class 015, so I assumed they’d be amongst the PAX on this bitter cold morning. Nacho Libre and DOI came down from the North. It was Nacho’s first BC Ruck, and DOI is consistent enough to be considered an honorary resident, at this point! Even more exciting was the arrival of Germ and Mothman. Both came out for the inaugural Ruck!

The Thang:

In total, 7 PAX and 2 canines took to the trails for an out and partial-back to the Veranda. Rather than heading back to Basecamp, we cut over to Catulo Run, traversed to the bridge to the dog park, and took the single track that splits the neighborhood, winding our way back to the launch. Thankfully, the new boots and my feet got along well together!

BOM:

Don’t expect to be motivated every day to get out there and make things happen. You won’t be. Don’t count on motivation. Count on Discipline.” – Jocko Willink’

In your job, in your relationships, in your fitness….motivation will only take you so far. Recognize and utilize the discipline the come from establishing routines, wanting to be the best, striving to be a good husband, brother, father, etc. Rely on that discipline to see you through the times that your motivation is lacking. Until next time!
