Metal, Street Lights and the Mighty 15

Four brave souls showed up to start the week off with a pleasant 3-mile EC run at the Eagle AO (Peach, Slowpitch, Avalanche, and Beano). By the magic hour of 5:30am, that initial four had grown to become a group of 15 PAX for the Main Event.  The following good work was done this day by the Mighty 15.

WARM UP – SSH, Side-to-Side Torso Rotations, Alt-Reverse Lunge to Blast Offs, Arm Circles (Forwards and Backwards), Air Squats, and Slow Merkins

THE THANG – Each PAX grabbed a piece of metal from YHC’s Highlander and carried it to the front parking lot of Creekside.  There are ten street lights that line the front entrance to the school, and we took turns traveling with metal from one street light to the next in variable fashions (weight – overhead, front carry, behind-the-head carry, farmer’s carry, etc.)  Upon arrival at each street light, we used the metal to complete an assigned exercise as a group (shoulder presses, bent over rows, swings, upright rows, front squats, around-the-worlds, etc.) After completion of the assigned exercise at each light, PAX would drop the metal and run back to the initial street light where we started the workout, then back to the light where they left the metal, planking it out while waiting for the rest of the group to finish.  We completed this series of carrying metal, completing a metal-based exercise at each subsequent light, and running from starting point back to metal ten times.  Each additional travel to a new street light resulted in more grueling “metal work,” plus a journey of growing distance from that point back to the first street light where we started, AND a final run back again to the metal that had been left behind.  When we reached the tenth street light (literally intersection of school entrance and Ephesus Church Rd.), the time had come for the group to carry their metal on one last farewell journey to the back parking lot for CoT.  The only mumblechatter centered around determining the quickest/shortest route to get back for CoT because the PAX were absolutely done traveling with metal by this point in the workout.

MARY – No time this AM due to extensive travel back from front of school (carrying heavy stuff, mind you) – a lot of core activation during the workout.

MOLESKIN – Prayers for Slowpitch’s good friend in Charlotte, who has a young son currently battling stomach cancer.

It’s always an honor to start the day with you guys.
