Menage a Dora

November 16, 2017

WHEN: 11/16/2017
QIC: Chum
PAX: 9 – Yanni, Red October, Ito, Nightshift, Spooky, Swingline, Bunyan, Nescafe, Chum

Disclaimer: YHC got the idea for this twist on Dora from some of the men from our Cape Fear region after I posted at Baywatch back in the summer.  I overheard one of the PAX mention something about this concept, and then saw via a BB where he finally had the opportunity to execute it.  I thought it sounded challenging and beneficial, so I borrowed his idea and tried to run with it (a reminder that one of the reasons we post a BB is to share ideas and experiences).

Disclaimer #2: If you post at Baywatch in the summer and you wear a shirt, you’ll be the only one.  All of those dudes Chippendale it.

Yanni and Nightshift knocked out some EC running.  As the clock reached 0530, we had nine men ready to get after it at Paradise.

Main Event

PAX form 3-man teams.  As luck would have it, we had 9 motivated men so the math worked perfectly.  If the math doesn’t work out perfectly, make 4-man teams with any “remainders”.  Two of the men on the 4-man team will be “conjoined twins” and function as one man (it will make more sense after you read the workout).

This is a three-man twist on Dora.  Man #1 performs upper body exercise on one side of the parking lot.  Man #2 performs ab exercise on the opposite side of the parking lot (about 50 yards away).  Man #3 runs sprints between Man #1 and Man #2.

Man #1 and Man #2 each commence his respective exercise.  Man #3 starts at Man #1, sprints across to the Man #2, returns to his start point, and then sprints back across and relieves Man #2 and picks up his exercise (just like a typical Dora).  Man #2 then performs the same “across-back-across” sprint and relieves Man #1 and picks up his exercise.  Man #1 becomes the sprinter, and the routine continues until the specified reps for the upper body and ab exercises are completed.

For the “conjoined twins”, those pair(s) of men execute as one man (i.e., both performing upper body or ab exercises (take an average of completed exercises for the Dora hand-off), and both perform the sprints at the same time (with the slower man being the trigger to relieve the man performing exercises).

Round One: 300 Merkins and 300 LBCs

Round Two: 200 Hand-Release Merkins and 200 WW2

Round Three: 100 Burpees and 100 Flutterkicks (4-count)

Note: The ab exercises went faster than the upper body.  We just continued flutterkicking (you’re welcome, Red October) until the burpees were completed.

We had a few minutes remaining, so we did some quick parking lot sprints.  Staying in 3-man teams, one man sprinted down the full length of the parking lot and back and tagged off to his teammate.  Next iteration was half-length of parking lot.

End of Time.

Beautifully simple, maybe simply awful, and hopefully awfully challenging.

Announcements: Continued prayers for Lo Pair.

COT: Much thanks to group for putting up with YHC’s second Q.  It was a great feeling to know that I could give this thing a shot and that the men would provide the support.  So from that standpoint, it really wasn’t much of a risk on my part but it was still rewarding to go try something new.  Go out and try something new – pitch that idea that you’ve been sitting on to your boss, sign up for that class that you keep postponing, call an old friend that you haven’t spoken to in a while.   Thanks again, and until next time…
