Looking for a mountain

January 27, 2018

WHEN: 01/27/2018
QIC: RG3
PAX: Rambler, Chum, The Exchange, Eddie the Eagle, Doi, Gomer, Moore, RG3, Toby(dog), Eddie(dog)

I arrived at 5:55 to an empty parking lot. But in true F3 fashion, cars started rolling in (seemingly in unison) with 1 or 2 minutes to spare. All in all, 8 PAX and 2 “PAX best friends” gathered, exchanged pleasantries and headed out torches ablaze.

“Are you looking for a Mountain?”

As we rucked towards Encore the group encountered a (perplexed) woman wearing PJs and walking her dog. She was obviously wondering who or what this scary militia was marching toward her. After a few “good mornings” she asked if we were “looking for a mountain?” and we all collectively erupted in laughter. It was awesome and a perfect start to a great morning ruck!

The Route and the Split

At the 5 or so mile mark, 3 PAX peeled off to get back to the clubhouse by 7:45 while the rest took the Horseshoe Trail through Polks Landing. Horseshoe is about ¾ mile and offers a really nice climb and a change of pace.

The Record

Upon reaching the parking lot, we realized we were nearing 7 miles so the group continued on for another ¼ mile to hit the new Basecamp Record! Well done men.

COT

I was exhausted and don’t recall exactly what I said but I do recall invoking Teddy Roosevelt’s “Believe you can and you’re halfway there”. In this time of new beginnings, resolutions, etc, it’s a good thing to remember that belief is what gets you to your goal. I’d go further and say believing you can gets you 99% there.  Stay committed to your goals and believe you can achieve them and you will. Aye.
