Hanging Doras and Heavy Metal

August 18, 2017

WHEN: 08/18/2017
QIC: Shake It and Blindside
PAX: Hux, Prius, Hang Time, Showtime, Weezer, Ocho, Timber, Blindside, Shake It

Still on central time after a trip to the Lone Star State, so EC was a little too early this time for YHC. 9 PAX arrived in the gloom for an SI BS co Q. After a quick conference with BS, YHC took the first half.

Warm-Up:

  • SSH x 20
  • Windmill x 10
  • Slow Merkins x 20
  • Reverse Lunges x 10

The Thang:

PAX pair off and wheelbarrow down to the Phillips track. Luckily YHC remembered a headlamp as the path was dark and full of terrors.

Hanging Doras – Doras with a little twist on them.  Like a traditional dora, partners will work together to complete a given number of burpees, merkins, and squats.  The big difference is that partners will not be sprinting or moving at all, partners will dead hang. Reps can only be performed while their partner is dead hanging, and partners will switch once the dead hanging partner comes down.  In anticipation of forearm and grip muscle fatigue, YHC set the reps to 60 burpees, 120 merkins, and 180 squats.  As pairs finish they did SSH and some plank work. Can only comment from what I saw with my partner, but Ocho was an absolute animal here.

Gorilla crawl back up the hill, and hand the keys over to Blindside. Great push up the hill and a ton of grit out of Hang Time.

As expected, the Blindside portion would involve the use of heavy metal.  Blindside gently reminded us that weights less than 45 lbs are not allowed at Animal House (unless you’re a 2.0).  First up a sets of chest press, shoulder press, and WWII’s with weight. Then, sets of LBCs, right-side crunches, left-side crunches without weight.  Weights were then lifted above the head as we walked across the basketball courts.  Walking faster than BS was a big no-no.

Dropping the weights BS put the PAX through some wall work.  4 sets of people’s chair and about a minute of BTTW.  PAX paired back up by weights and then firemen carried (or however you wanted to carry your partner) across the courts and back.  Once back, partners switched roles.  The initial instructions were for each man to have two reps, but was amended as YHC and Ocho were in the middle of their second reps.  Best part of this exercise was watching Hang Time carry his pops Weezer with the PAX.  Comments like “your dad is literally a pain in your ass” were common during this time. Weights back overhead and we carried back to the other end of the court.

We did an insufferable amount of chest press, WWIIs, LBCs, etc.  Enough to rip the skin right off the tailbone. YHC didn’t take detailed notes on the reps and sets, but it was enough to want 0630 to arrive.

COT:

  • Prayers for the people affected by the terror attack in Barcelona
  • Prayers for healing of our nation as we mourn the tragedy in Charlottesville.

YHC was very grateful to be posting with the PAX again.  I had really missed the F3 community while away in Texas.  One of the fun, and exhausting, things that we did in Texas was look at a lot of the street murals in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio.  One that really stood out was one outside the Mexican Heritage Art Museum in Austin that read “Todos Son Bienvenidos.” – All Are Welcome
