Glowing Bags of Bastille

14 PAX arrived (mostly on time) on a beautiful, crisp clear chilly morning at the park at Southern Village for Chapel Hill’s Premier Friday workout, Bastille. YHC had hear much about Bastille over the years and words had been exchanged in the past regarding its superiority over Durham’s Premier Friday Workout, The Falcon. I have to say, the park has it all and it is a great site. YHC was happy to announce that today’s Q completed his Master Q challenge, having Q’d 25 unique AOs in the Churham region. What better way to finish off this CSAUP than to break out my patented Glowing Bag of Wonder workout.

Warm-up

Glowing Bags of Wonder:

This circular park was perfect for this setup. There was a circularish path, maybe 200-300 yards around with many large boulders lining the path. One 5 large boulders sat 5 colored bags, each bag with 4 sets of exercises.

YHC tried something different this time. Instead of illuminating the bags from within using glow sticks, this time I used flashlights with external illumination. All in all, I really liked the effect.

The group of 14 was split into two groups of 7 (smaller groups for better fellowship). Group one started at the Blue bag on line #1. Group two started at the Red bag on Line #3. Each group would run to the bag, do the exercise and then move to the next bag indicated. Once a circuit of 5 bags was completed and they were back to their starting bag, the group moves down to the next line and does another circuit of 5 bags. 4 circuits total.

Red Bag
1. 40 Carolina Dry Docks, run to Yellow
2. 40 Tuck Jumps, run to Yellow
3. 40 Merkins, run to White
4. 40 Little Man Jumping Jacks (Banned??), run to Yellow

Blue Bag
1. 50 Air Squats, run to White
2. 50 Squat Jumps, run to Green
3. 50 Jump Lunges (25 each leg), run to Green
4. 50 Lunges (25 each leg), run to Green

Green Bag
1. 20 Clap Merkins, run to Blue
2. 40 Donkey Kicks, run to White
3. 20 EKG Merkins, run to Yellow
4. 40 Quad Hoppers, run to Red

White (Burpee Island)
1. 15 Burpees, run to Red
2. 15 Burpees, run to Red
3. 15 Burpees, run to Blue
4. 15 Burpees, run to Blue

Yellow (Mary)
1. 50 Low Slow Flutters, run to Green
2. 50 Heels to Heaven, run to Blue
3. 50 Russian Hammers, run to Red
4. 50 LBCs, run to White

Thanks to all for the support in finishing this CSAUP, Master Q. I still plan on getting to the other AOs that started after July 1st but 25 was all that was needed to finish this challenge.

Bastille is definitely one of the top 2 or 3 Friday workout sites. Too bad the Falcon has a shirt proving that they are the true “Premier Friday Workout.”
