Frozen

February 2, 2018

WHEN: 01/19/2018
QIC: Trickle
PAX: Weazer, Dean Wormer, Turnpike, Eddie the Eagle, Spooky, Sir MixALot, Nooky, DC and two more unidentified flying pax (UFP)

Summary:  YHC was pleasantly surprised to see 11 post at a Bastille parking lot that looked like Arendelle – it’s a “Frozen” reference, get it?  The roads and parking lot were packed with snow and ice, and temps were in the teens.  But as they say in Norway, “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.”  Sounds better in Norwegian, probably.  I’ll “Let it Go.”

Warmup:

Run in place

SSH x 20

Imperial Walkers x 20

“Yoga” stretches  (Warrior 1, 2, & 3) x2

Deep Squats x 20

The Thang:

-We started out with a little mosy/slide around to the Building 400 parking deck underground.  Once there, it was a “Michigan Mile” ice hockey training routine, meaning a series of suicide sprints with merkins, crabwalk, carioke, hop along, balls to wall, and some light skipping thrown in along the way for good measure.  Rest intervals were spent on the wall, at squat position.

– Pullups for max, x3

Mary:

Flutter kicks x 30

WW2 x30

Heels to heaven x20

Freddie Mercury’s x 30

To wrap things up and get back to the lot, we jogged back in formation, sounding off with an old Army cadence.  Through all the singing and running, YHC learned that half the group was from New Jersey.  Is there an emoji for that?

Accomplishment 1: Got 11 Pax to post on one of the most treacherous, cold and icy days of the year.

Accomplishment 2: Good workout with no injuries (and with no Berkins).

Final thoughts:

There are small and large benefits that come to us through Winter workouts. Exercising in the cold brings a certain clarity and crispness to our minds that Summer workouts can’t.  The snow and ice make it harder to get out, but the added challenge often makes for a more interesting and memorable session as well.  As to the smaller benefits: To me, the first cup of coffee tastes better after any F3 workout, and it tastes even better after F3 on such a cold and nasty day.  Now, I’m not suggesting that doing things that are uncomfortable will always result in a better coffee drinking experience.   They don’t, trust me.  I’m just saying that my mind is clearer, and the coffee tastes better, after a Frozen F3.
