Fibonacci meets burpees

In looking for an AO to Q on this 4/26, I thought of making a trip to Durham and visit some of our brothers from the northeast. Tobacco Road is only 10 miles from Briar Chapel as the crow flies, but our great NC forests and winding roads make it for a longer trip that requires some planning. I arrived to the AO at 0520 to meet Cardiac in the parking lot, and I noticed he was doing burpees OYO. “I like this guy” was my initial thought, but I suggested he save some burpees for later. As the clock marked 0530, a total of five PAX were ready to get to work.

Mosey to parking lot

Squat-Bear Crawl-Buddy Merkin Ladder: In partners, each partner starts on one side of the parking lot, performs 10 squats, BC to the middle, and does 1 buddy merkin before BCing back to the side of the parking lot. Rinse and repeat, reducing 1 squat and adding 1 buddy merkin each time. Should always add to 11.

Paired balls-to-the-wall-LBCs: In partners, partner #1 goes BTTW while partner #2 does LBCs, keeping track the count. Switch as needed, picking up the LBC count. The goal is to reach 300 LBCs total.

Fibonacci burpees: OYO, perform the following sequence of burpees with ~15-sec recovery between each round: 1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34, for a total of 87 burpees. The Fibonacci Sequence is one of those classic series that you learn in math class, so YHC was proud to put his college math education to good use. In doing this exercise, YHC tried to get the PAX to predict what the next number would be. T-Claps to Floyd who picked it up pretty quickly. Later, YHC realized that he missed 0 and another 1 at the beginning, but we can all live without them. The best comment came from – YHC believes – Stop Drop & Roll, who sounded a little surprised when we went from 8 to 13: “Oh… this goes up quickly.”

In the end, the PAX seemed happy that at least it wasn’t a burpee pyramid, which would’ve totaled 100 burpees.

Honored to lead you guys this morning. Today is an important day, YHC’s father’s 83rdbirthday. Unfortunately he passed away almost 7 years ago, but I do my best to bring his memory to my daughters (5 and 1), who never met him but will get to know him through me. That is my personal challenge and duty. I am the ‘bridge.’ We all have someone like that in our lives, and we all have the challenge to convey who that person was to others whom we also care about. Let’s do our best to convey who they were, so their memories will live on for a long time. Until we meet again in the gloom. Aye!
