Approximately 20 showed up for a chilly 2.0 workout today, no doubt related to YHC’s promise of donuts and hot chocolate following. Dads were told to bring something hot to sip for some post-workout fellowship. Oh, and the dads were promised a beatdown. YHC continues to consider the unique challenge presented by Sunnyside: how to give the dads enough of a beatdown to keep them engaged, but make things fun for the 2.0.’s in attendance. I think this workout will have something for everyone, and will give the kids their first taste of leadership. Let’s get to it.

Warm Up

  • SSH IC x 12, forward and reverse arm circles IC, each x 10, squats IC x 10

The Thang

#1        The “Twelve Days of Christmas” extravaganza! 2.0’s were each given a “day of Christmas” to call out in order as we did a “Twelve Days of Christmas” ladder. Exercises were #1 burpee x1, #2 LBCx2, #3 flutter kick x3, #4 WWII x4, #5 five Golden Merkins, #6 Dry Docks x6, #7, Mountain climbers x 7, #8 squats x 8, #9 lunges x 9, #10 SSH x10, #11 imperial walkers x 11, #12 squat jumps x 12.

Whew!

#2        Dad vs 2.0(s). 5 burpees then run a lap, lap size depending upon age. Dads did 10 burpees. First back wins candy cane. Next we raced after doing 10 merkins (dads did 20). Same prize. Finally, 15 SSH (single count, dads did 30), candy cane to winner.

#3        Good elf (2.0) vs Bad elf (dad) tag. Kids tag any dad they can catch, dads do 5 penalty burpees. This pretty much finished off the dads!

COT:

  • No announcements
  • Thanks to Durham PAX Knope and Toolbox, and their 2.0’s Ledecky and Bobcat for getting up extra early to join in the festivities!

Naked moleskine:

Thanks for coming out for fellowship and exercise this morning. All of us here today are very fortunate. We have wants, but never needs like food, shelter, warmth, or love. Keep in mind people around the world, and even in our own county, are not so fortunate. Christmas is a time we are especially charitable, and kids are especially kind to each other. But why stop after Christmas? Never pass up an opportunity to be kind – to give kind words or assistance to another person, or to volunteer your time for a good cause. Dads, continue on your quest to be better fathers, sons, bosses, employees, leaders and followers. Kids, strive to be better brothers, sisters, cousins, students, and citizens, not just at Christmas, but throughout the year.

Now lets eats donuts and have hot chocolate! Aye!
