Introduction: Been a busy week for YHC.  I should really be mailing this one in, with a bevy of time-killing curb maneuvers and hill ladder punishments, but I couldn’t resist. I don’t Q much, and I’ve had this notion to involve the Astronomy Park in a workout since it was constructed. It’s really beautiful up there, and I love the large stones but have struggled to find a use for them other than recreating the classic Led Zeppelin Houses of the Holy album cover with sweaty, clothed PAX. Then it hit me (as I was planning a Sunnyside Easter egg hunt beatdown), those stones are perfect for an Easter egg hunt! With the thrill of the hunt I hoped to hear fewer groans and complaints about today’s beatdown.

Warm up:

SSH IC x 20, slow squats IC x 10, Willie May Hayes IC x 10 (led by Nanu Nanu), heel cord stretches SC x 10 each side, slow Merkin IC x 15

The Thang:

The PAX needed to get to the Astronomy Park STAT. Group split into 3 phalanxes 6-men strong and we did a Bataan Death March to get there (Ricky Bobby run with last man dropping, doing 5 Burpees, and then sprinting to the front of the group). AYG run up the paved trail once arriving at the bottom of the hill. 10 count for all my friends.

Once assembled at the main circle we commenced hunting Easter eggs. Due to the particularly gloomy nature of today’s Gloom, I made sure the 9 eggs were sprinkled about pretty obviously around the main circle and surrounding boulders. 1 egg was supposed to have contained a delicious Dove dark chocolate (my fave) but this appeared to have fallen out because I found it in my bag at the end of the workout. Some poor PAX must have thought it cruel to open a treat-less egg containing the note, “Happy Easter! Take this chocolate, you deserve it.” The remainder of the eggs held directions to the following 8 exercises to be done by the discoverer, and eventually the PAX in its entirety:

  1. “Rockees” (Rock Burpees) x 10
  2. Walking plank, derkin-style, along 1 entire curved wall.
  3. Rock curls x 50
  4. Rock overhead press x 30
  5. Crawl Bear back to main circle from egg, then return Bear Crawl
  6. Box jumps onto rock wall x 20
  7. Makhtar N’Diayes x 20
  8. Mountain Climbers x 30

Mosey back to the AO at fellowship pace.

Mary:

The assembled PAX appeared to have done a Plank medley waiting me to arrive with the 6. So were probably disappointed that we proceeded onwards to perform a roll-up with bilateral side twists (legs maintained at 45 degrees) IC x 11, side planks with a leg lift IC x 11 (to each side, of course). Special guest star Yanni, sultry-voiced today, brought us home with a crowd favorite for the encore: Prom Night IC x 20.

COT:

Nescafe has christened 2 unique challenges:

  1. “The Rambler” – 5 consecutive posts (to be a true Rambler, must include EC in my opinion)
  2. “The Yanni” – Q 8 different AO’s in 8 weeks
  3. Someone suggested “The Doi” – 5 consecutive fartsacks, each with a unique excuse.

Sunnyside, 2.0 workout on alternate Saturdays (tomorrow) – see channel

Nothing special prepared today, but Zook pitching in to help me out with a Q tomorrow at Sunnyside just makes me appreciative of the 2nd F and 3rd F that takes place here all the time. Everyone is always willing to pitch in and help someone out, whether the person in need is F3-connected or not. There’s an entire channel devoted to 3rd F, and the group has become a brotherhood and family of sorts. I now get how the 3rd F springs naturally from the first two, and am appreciative for this fact. Thanks to everyone for putting up with my Q high jinks. Aye!
