Do Your Job

February 2, 2018

WHEN: 02/02/2018
QIC: Sussudio
PAX: Topper, Coco, Grunge, Red October, Beanbag, Dueling Banjos, Nescafe, Griswold, Rambler, RG3, Bunyan, Marky Mark, Zook, As-is, Link, I.C.E, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Fudd, Horny Toad, Flenderson, Boyardee

Last night, as I was preparing for my Q this morning (watching an F3 video on how to count), I was continually stymied by the course of action I should take today. In the past I’ve always looked forward to leading the pack, but last night I wasn’t really feeling it. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that it was a  really long week, or my that wife and son had been sick, or because I jammed my thumb on the  car door and I swear to god it still hurts like a real jerk. Probably one of those three things contributed to my lack of wanting to Q. Anyways, I turned around and told my wife about this and she looked at me very calmly and deliberately. After a short pause, she looked me in the eyes and said something, I’m not really sure because I zoned out and started thinking about the Super Bowl this weekend.

This weekend, the Patriots play the Eagles in what will surely be at least, a great game. The NFL is so interesting because the salary cap, with its dead money and restrictions, guarantees a level of parity that is not really seen in the 3 other major North American sports (Best of luck Memphis Grizzlies fans!) Now, everyone talks about this Super Bowl as a sort of David vs Goliath matchup. That may be true, in a sense, but clearly these two teams are the best in the league this year. The Patriots, since 2000, have showcased a level of success that hasn’t really been sustained before and will be hard to sustain in the future. I started thinking about the slogan that has persisted around the Patriots since 2000: “Do Your Job”. I realized right then and there that I had a duty and an obligation to Q and I was going to do my job (More on this, and other Patriots amazingness, later!). Then I was double pumped because I also realized “Do Your Job” could be the theme as well. At this point I mentally high fived myself and settled in to watch the 30 for 30 on Bill Belichik and Bill Parcells. So if anyone was wondering why I kept yelling this morning you can thank the various clips of the ’91 Giants and Bill Parcells for that.

The Thang

We counted off in groups of 4. These would be our groups for the rest of the workout.

Group 1 Settled in at the Picnic table for Dips. Group 2 at the curb for Derkins. Group 3 hit the wet pavement for Burpees and Group 4 sprinted to the far lamppost and back. Exercises were OYO until the sprint was completed and everyone switched stations until we rotated through.

The second act saw Group 1 start with mountain climbers, Group 2 standard Merkins, Group 3 WWII, and the 4th group Bear Crawled to the closest lamppost and sprinted back. The PAX rotated through all 4 stations.

We then moseyed over to the Tennis courts where each group had their own side of a court. Each group would work to the net and back and rotate after completing. Group 1 started with Gator crawls, Group 2 with Bear Crawls, Group 3 with Crawl Bear and Group 4 with Crab Walks.

Once completed we took a long Mosey as YHC was out of ideas (Like the Jaguars offense in the second half of the AFC Championship game, Zing!) and ended up towards the new construction behind the power lines. Staying in our groups and staggering start times, the groups would sprint to the base of the hill, and then turning up towards the AO, lunge walk.

As each group completed the Lunge walk, Grunge led the PAX on several plank holds until we all finished.

COT

Unfortunately I didn’t relate this as eloquently as I had in my head but putting the Patriots stuff aside, the motto “Do Your Job” is a very relatable one. Every one of us has our responsibilities, some big, some small. “Do Your Job” to me, means to take what you do and ensure it is done perfectly, succinctly, correctly. Like a team, your everyday activities have ramifications outside of yourself. When you look at “your Job”- your vocation, your family, your friends, your community, by taking care of your responsibilities, you are effectively ensuring the betterment of everything around you. Your life and community will be better off. It was a pleasure this morning and I truly enjoy being with you all. Go Pats.

P.S. Nescafe actually suggested earlier in the week that because I switched my Q with Rambler, I had in fact put a jinx on the Patriots. So, should they lose please feel free to thank me. Really setting myself up for a worst case scenario nightmare.
