Crate o’coupons

March 6, 2018

WHEN: 03/05/2018
QIC: Nubbin
PAX: Blistex, Buffay, Hightower, Pusher, Virgo, and Nubbin (YHC)

It was a clear and chilly morning at The Rock in the Northern Province when 6 hardy PAX gathered together to carry heavy stuff. YHC dug deep within his tool shed to find trinkets leftover from days gone by: iron plates of various weight; a homemade torture device from my childhood consisting of a wooden dowel, a 4′ length of rope and a 10lb weight; and a plastic milk crate that has served as their home for decades. This “crate o’coupons” was supplemented by a more recent homemade addition: a Bulgarian training bag, that I’ve started to lovingly call “the Suck” (see photos below).

Together the PAX performed the following:

Warmup (in cadence):

Side Shuffle Hop x 20
Guitar hero x5 each arm (swinging your arm in your best rendition of a Slash solo)
Seal clap front and back x20
Imperial walker x15
Good mornings x15
The Thang:
The PAX moseyed over to the soccer field entrance where they found the crate o’coupons waiting. Each chose a coupon and Cusacked (holding the weight over their head) to the playground.
We left our coupons at the playground and lined up on side of soccer field, where we performed 5 merkins, then ran to opposite side of the field and performed 20 imperial squats. We then ran back across the field to do 10 merkins, and then back again across the field for 15 imperial squats. We continued the pattern until we did 20 merkins and 5 imperial squats. Exercises were all done in cadence, leaving no PAX behind.
Once we got our hearts pumping, we return to our coupons, broke up into three groups of 2, and performed the following:
Group 1 – 20 overhead skull crusher (triceps), followed by 20 bicep curls using the 35 lb plates.
Group 2 – 10 rock-a-bye baby (people’s chair, weight over head, down to chest, straight out, right twist, left twist, back to over head), followed by 10 thrusters using the 25lb plates
Group 3 – 5 overhead swings per side with The Suck followed by a currently unnamed forearm exercise using the weight tied to the wooden dowel. Here’s how it works: the unfortunate PAX holds the dowel in front of them at arms length and shoulder height, then proceeds to wind the string around the dowel by rotating the wrists to roll the dowel. The weight will slowly come up to dowel height while the PAX’s strength slowly fails. (It’s a forearm burner!)
Once each group completed their assigned exercise we rotated until every PAX had a chance to sample the crate o’coupons.
From there, we Ricky Bobbied our way back to the parking lot. To make the trip more interesting the last PAX member would perform burpees before sprinting to the front of the line, while the rest of the PX performed traveling lunges.
Mary (in cadence):
Super man pulls (on our 1 with feet and arms outstretched and 4 inches off the ground, in cadence we raised chest and pulled arms in bringing our shoulder blades together) x10
Lbcs x30
Gas pumper x10
Windshield wiper x10
