The Thang 

Bataan Death March to Briar Chapel Soccer Field.

 

Partner Up.  Then, partners group with another set of partners to form a 4-man Fire Team.

 

Fire Team Merkins.  Form a square as a team, with teammate’s feet on another man’s shoulders.  Perform 20 merkins together as a team.

 

Partner Movements.

Round 1 – One partner teams moves length of field by bounding (one man down, other man is up sprinting to the cadence, “I’m up.  He sees me. I’m down.” Alternate).  Once set, partner repeats the same.  Continue this to far side.  Upon arrival, commence flutterkicks.  Remaining partner team performs flutterkicks on the near side.  Once first partner team commences flutterkicks, other partner team similarly bounds across field.  Once they reach the team doing flutters, they commence flutters, and the first team performs fireman carry (pax across shoulders; not piggy back carry).  Swap at mid-field, and continue back to starting line.  Commence flutters upon arrival, and team on far side performs fireman carry back to start line.

 

Round 2 – Fire Team Dora.  One partner team performs exercises on near side, while other team moves across field and back by either (i) bounding or (ii) fireman carry.  Rep counts are by Fire Team (not 2-man partner teams):

  • 100 Buddy Sit-Ups (one man standing, the other with legs locked around standing man’s waist (i.e., “scroat-to-scroat.” Do a sit-up).
  • 150 – Lunges
  • 200 – Squats

 

Remarks: We probably did a couple buddy weight squats before everyone defaulted to normal and even then not many finished counts; chalk it up to Q biting off too much to chew.

 

We were getting pinched on time, so we ended with 5 Fire Team Merkins for all.

COT/BOM

The themes I planned were 1. Teamwork 2. Becoming more comfortable in discomfort and 3. Anticipation. The 4th that came up was novelty and newness. I sometimes think of discomfort or being uncomfortable as being over 50% bad and being comfortable as being over 50% ok.  We all face challenges and discomfort in our lives, we’re all uncomfortable with something new and strange (like getting scroat to scroat to put your buddy in the standing guard and doing some situps). Or like starting a new job, moving to a new city, having a new kiddo, leaving behind friends or some other sort of comfort zones. Sometimes anticipation of these events can be as or more painful than the events themselves. Sometimes not (sorry about your backs!)  We all get into situations more than 50% uncomfortable, and if we can get 50% or more comfortable with that, with enduring that, we can keep moving and keep pushing that percentage further and further toward comfort. Through teamwork and each other’s leadership and encouragement at F3 we have the opportunity to practice this together. To practice being uncomfortable and to become more comfortable with that experience and to move it forward together. Thank you for helping me in my practice. I’ve needed it.
