Band of F’s

March 9, 2018

WHEN: 03/09/2018
QIC: Band Camp
PAX: Dag Gum, Stevie Ray, Smokes, Pink, Harlequin, Chum, Eddie the Eagle, Homes, Spooky, Dean Wormer, Turnpike, Tree house, Rudy, Zika, Kevin, Sir Mix-a-lot, Trickle, Moore, Nookie, Goat Cheese, Vandalay.

It was colder than expected, but I brought my boom box to warm things up.  I alerted the Pax that there was a common thread to the music i would play and if they could name the band of each track, it would prove helpful later.

WARM UP

We started with “Slow Ride” by Foghat and my own invention to save my knees,  “Side shuffle Squats” in cadence to the beat (No side-shuffle hops)

We did 15 in half time, then 15 double time.

15 Good Mornings

20 Willie Mays Hays

15 Imperial Walkers

Alternating Downward Dog/Cobra to stretch the hamstrings and achilles.

Then we mosey-ed to the Rock to do “Musical Merkins.”

We did them in cadence as ‘bars” of music, “1-2-3-4” equalling one bar of play, then one bar of rest; 2 bars of play, 2 bars of rest, etc. all the way up to 8 bars. ( I had aspirations of getting to 24 bars but quickly realized the folly of that goal) We did so to the beat of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain”

When the song finished we did a fellowship jog around the pond.

THE THANG

Then Partnered up to do WWII’s to the beat of songs selected from my special F play list. One member of each team did the WWI’s the other held their feet. If one of the PAX doing the exercises could name the band, everyone would switch. They had no trouble naming The Fugees, or Fleetwood Mac, but were slow to come up with Fall Out Boy and nobody could name Fountain’s of Wayne when “Stacy’s Mom” came on.

Once finished we did a fellowship jog around the pond and then Mosey-ed over to the hockey rink.

There we grabbed the same partner and went to opposite ends. One had to run the length of the rink and back to tag out the other doing body weight squats in place. If the music changed or stopped, those who weren’t safe on the wall had to drop and do 5 Burpees wherever they were. The first one to name the band and the song each time was granted immunity to the burpees.

MARY

The music kept shuffling and the first one to name the band and song got to pick the exercise.

Homes recognized Falco’s “Rock Me Amadeus” almost instantly and proceeded to lead us in flutter kicks which I think topped 50.

Smokes recognized Florida Georgia Line’s “This Is How We Roll” and led us in 25 or so Russian Hammers

COT

Chum invited everyone to participate in a run called “The Gambler” at 8am on 3/24. Check Slack for details.

Due to a work conflict, Dean Wormer is trying to give away his entry to The Spartan Charlotte Sprint April 7. Contact him for details.
