8/10 mile mountain ruck

March 10, 2018

WHEN: 03/10/2018
QIC: RG3
PAX: Germ, Mothman, Chum, Bright Idea, Rambler, Moore, Stinky Pete

I didn’t expect many to show for the 0500 EC start on a Saturday morning, particularly following Duke v UNC round 3. But damn, the PAX were ready to get after the 8/10 mile mountain ruck this morning! We had 8 start the ruck. Germ peeled off after the first 2.8 mile loop (he’s been battling a germ of his own of late). With no other PAX showing up for the standard 0600 start, the PAX kept moving.

Mothman peeled off at about the 5 mile mark and the remaining six trekked on. We hit the 8-mile mark as planned right back at the AO. Three called it quits at that point (including YHC), and three marched on for who knows how long.  Nice work today, men.

Since we were so dispersed, YHC didn’t formally conclude the festivities with the proper ceremonies.  However, I was planning to reflect on a quote I heard recently that “Comfort is the enemy of achievement”.  It’s harsh, but true.

It would’ve been much more comfortable to sleep in on a Saturday. It would’ve been comfortable not to do this PathFinder challenge at all. It would be comfortable to not get up everyday at 5:30 to work. But nobody ever accomplished anything just sitting around and relaxing.

Comfort is not a bad thing. In fact, I love to kick back, grab a beer, and veg out.   But just don’t let it dictate your life or you’ll be full of regret and that’s not something any of us want.  So set those goals, but don’t expect achievement to come easy.
